$30 Off Kindle Fire (AL)

Update: Fixed links to voucher.

This is another AmazonLocal deal. Just click on Apply from the Free Voucher Worth $30 Off a Kindle Fire page, then complete the purchase on the page after that. You must have a credit card on file, make a "purchase" at zero cost, then the promo code is automatically applied to your account (no waiting for an email and dealing with a promo code). Sign-up for this offer expires July 13, 2013 or when the number of vouchers set aside by Amazon have been exhausted.

Note that this deal is for the Kindle Fire (2nd Generation), not the Kindle Fire HD, which is currently marked at $30 off (no voucher needed). You can get the tablet with or without Special offers using the $30 voucher, with a limit of one tablet per account (although nothing says that families with more than one account can't buy one per account and then register them all together, to take advantage of a Prime membership).
Deal Description
Kindle Fire is the perfect family tablet with the best in kids' entertainment, and today's deal from Amazon.com offers an excellent opportunity to acquire one at a magnificent discount. Take advantage of today's deal and of all the convenience and fun Kindle Fire has to offer.
  • Powerful processor and extra-long battery life, designed to travel with you wherever you go
  • Ultra-fast web browsing over built-in Wi-Fi -- easy-to-use email works with Gmail, Yahoo!, and others
  • Over 23 million movies, TV shows, apps, games, books, magazines, songs, and audiobooks
  • This voucher will be automatically applied to your Amazon.com account; please do not place your Kindle Fire order until you have received an e-mail from Amazon Local confirming that your voucher has been applied. The credit may not apply to orders placed on Amazon.com prior to the receipt of this confirmation
  • Voucher will expire if not used toward a qualifying purchase of Kindle Fire on Amazon.com by 11:59 P.M. PST on July 20, 2013
  • Voucher is only valid for Kindle Fire Tablet featured here and identified as "Ships from and sold by Amazon Digital Services" and does not apply to products sold by other sellers
  • Voucher is only valid for $30 off the regular price of Kindle Fire ($159 or $174) purchased only from Amazon.com. Purchaser will be responsible for payment to Amazon.com of final order total after discount, plus applicable taxes and shipping charges. Voucher is not valid for Kindle Fire HD
  • Limit 1 voucher per customer; limited quantities available
  • This promotion may not be combined with other offers, including promotional certificates

Save $30 on Kindle Fire HD!

As a Fourth of July promotion, Amazon has marked down the price of the Kindle Fire HD 7" (now $169), no promotional code required. If you prefer not to have Special Offers, add $15, and to double the internal storage (for movies and games, for example), add $30.

This is marked as a limited time promotion, but since it is being done via a price break on the product page, I don't see anything on how long it lasts. I suspect the prices are only good thru July 4th.

Kindle DX Returns, Keyboard Exits

I think we all knew that the Kindle Keyboard 3G's days were limited and apparently they are now over, as this model has been removed from the current Kindle Family lineup at Amazon. Amazon is no longer taking orders on any of the Keyboard models, both are showing as out of stock and no known time when they will come back in (there are a few used ones that can be ordered).

In the meantime, though, a model we all thought was gone for good has come back: the graphite Kindle DX, complete with free 3G and global coverage. From the specs and images I can see, this is identical to the 2nd generation Kindle DX that disappeared from their lineup earlier. For those who read a lot of PDF's, the DX's size is ideal; it can be a bit slow loading PDF's and those that are image only can be slow turning pages, but those are the same files that can be impossible to read on the smaller Kindles that are out there. If your eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, the DX lets you enlarge the print much more (and you get more words on the page when you do), plus it has sound support (which is lacking in the rest of the eInk Kindle line-up, at this point). That means you can use the Read-to-Me feature on your books and newspapers, as well as load up on audiobooks for the times when reading isn't as convenient. And, of course, you can listen to music and podcasts and there is a basic web browser for checking your email or shopping on the web.

I will say, I was hoping that the DX would return with a lit screen (essentially, a Paperwhite DX), preferably without losing features and memory, as has been the recent direction Amazon has taken with their devices. One by one, we've lost the ability to add books and music via SD card, then the keyboard, then sound entirely. Sure, some of those features are on the tablets, but none of those will give us 2-3 weeks of battery life (or even 3 days, for mine) and it is a lot easier (and faster) to transfer music and audiobook via an SD card than it is to try to reload them via the slow internet connection we have here (or find in most hotspots).

Save $20 on Kindle Fire HD!

Update: Offer extended until June 15 (or while supplies last).

As a Father's Day promotion, you can save $20 on a Kindle Fire HD 7" (now from $179 with promo), the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" or Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G, by entering promotional code DADSFIRE at checkout. The deals page shows both the base models and the memory upgraded models, as well as those with and without Special Offers (if you don't want Dad to have to pay to dump the advertising himself). If you play a lot of games, like to download the full content on those Audubon apps or want to stick a few movies on there for a quick trip, you should probably consider upgrading to the 32GB model, for only $30 extra (on the 4G model, that's where you start and the upgrade to 64G is $100).

There are some restrictions, which work out to basically one per customer (account), only those sold by Amazon (no third party sellers or used), and only until the number they've set aside for the promotion sell out (the final end date is June 8th, but there is also a "while supplies last" clause). Be sure not to use one-click, though - you need to go thru the full checkout process, so that you can apply the promo code above (and double check your total) before ordering, in order to get the sale price. If you are buying as a gift, be sure to click the box on the summary page for that, as well, so that the device isn't auto-registered to your account.

40% Off Select Kindle Accessories (AL)

This is repeat of the earlier AmazonLocal deal, so if you signed up earlier, you are still signed up for this deal (you just get longer to make a selection).

Click on Apply from the Free Voucher for 40% Off Select Kindle Accessories page, then complete the purchase on the page after that. Yes, it now says "Apply" instead of "purchase" on these free offers, but nearly the same process: you must be in the US and have a credit card on file, make a "purchase" at zero cost, then the promo code is automatically applied to your account (no waiting for an email and dealing with a promo code). Sign-up for this offer expires June 4, 2013 or when the number of vouchers set aside by Amazon have been exhausted.

Grab a voucher now, before they sell out and you'll have three days to look thru the qualifying items and decide which ones you want (although popular ones may sell out, as happened earlier with this deal, but it appears to have been restocked with some new choices). Also, be sure to click on the headings for your particular Kindle model (or the one you're buying for Dad), once you get to the Accessories page - only a few are displayed when you first arrive and there are actually quite a few for each Kindle model. Besides the usual assortment of cases, there are headphones made specifically for the Kindle Fire (presumably with a thin connector, so it will work with the Fire in an Amazon case).
Deal Description
Dad's life changed when he got that Kindle. This Father's Day, support his newfound passion by getting a free voucher good for 40% off up to $250 worth of accessories from the Kindle Accessories Store. Give him a Kindle cover that will identify his device as his alone, or a protective molded case to keep it secure while it's in his briefcase or backpack.
  • Free voucher for 40% off up to $250 worth of select Kindle accessories
  • Choose from a huge variety of covers, cases, easel stands, and sleeves
  • Make sure Dad's Kindle is both stylishly attired and secure
  • Voucher will expire if not used toward a qualifying purchase in the Kindle Accessories Store by June 11, 2013
  • Voucher is valid for a 40% discount on your order total (up to the first $250 spent) for qualifying items in the Kindle Accessories Store; your order total can be over $250, but the maximum discount is $100.
  • Limit 1 voucher per customer; limited quantities available
  • This promotion may not be combined with other offers, including promotional certificates

40% Off Select Kindle Accessories (AL)

This is another AmazonLocal deal, so you must be in the US, but don't have to find a special offer on your Kindle. Instead, just click on Apply from the Free Voucher Worth 40% Off Select Kindle Accessories for Dad page, then complete the purchase on the page after that. Yes, it now says "Apply" instead of "purchase" on these free offers, but nearly the same process: you must be in the US and have a credit card on file, make a "purchase" at zero cost, then the promo code is automatically applied to your account (no waiting for an email and dealing with a promo code). Save $20 on 7" Kindle Fire HD!

As a Mother's Day promotion, you can save $20 on a Kindle Fire HD 7" (now from $179 with promo), by entering promotional code FIRE4MOM at checkout. The deals page shows both the base models and the memory upgraded models, as well as those with and without Special Offers (if you don't want Mom to have to pay to dump the advertising herself). If you play a lot of games, like to download the full content on those Audubon apps or want to stick a few movies on there for a quick trip, you should probably consider upgrading to the 32GB model, for only $30 extra.

There are some restrictions, which work out to basically one per customer (account), only those sold by Amazon (no third party sellers or used), and only until the number they've set aside for the promotion sell out (the final end date is May 12th, but there is also a "while supplies last" clause).

$20 Off Kindle Paperwhite - Today Only

Note: This deal is over and the page at Amazon has been removed.

I initially wasn't going to write about this deal, since it didn't work for me when I tried it a couple of days ago and seemed to be targeted only to people who received an email. Some people who didn't get an email, though, were able to use the code (this appeared to be people who don't already have a device connected to their accounts) and others have reported that using the CHAT feature to contact Kindle support was working to be able to get the discount applied manually.

Get $20 Off the Kindle Paperwhite (with special offers) - thru April 30 (midnight, PST).

Try first, of course, to enter the promo code KINDLEPW after placing a single Kindle Paperwhite, with Special Offers (the code does not work on the more expensive model, although you can simply pay to get rid of them later). Go thru the full checkout process and apply the promo code KINDLEPW. If it works (check the summary box on the right side of the page), then finish checking out.

If it doesn't take $20 off, then leave that page up and open a new tab. Go back to the Kindle Paperwhite page, click on Kindle Support, then the Contact Us button on the right side of the page (about half way down). Ignore the part at the top about picking a Kindle device and skip down to section 2. Choose "Placing an Order" and then "Payments and Promotions", then click on Chat. You should quickly be connected to a Kindle support rep, who can assist in trying to get the promo code to work. They may require you to place the order and then apply the discount after the order is created -- I have done this a time or two in the past, without problems, but I always suggest both keeping a copy of the chat transcript and checking the order itself after a few minutes, to see if the promo credit was applied (it will be in the bottom section of the invoice).

So, for those wanting a Paperwhite for themselves (or as a last-minute gift for Mother's Day), give it a try.

Terms & Conditions
  1. Promotion is valid for a limited time only. Amazon reserves the right to cancel it at any time.
  2. Promotion applies only to new Kindle Paperwhite devices sold and shipped by Amazon Digital Services. It does not apply to the same products sold by other sellers or to Certified Refurbished Kindle products.
  3. If you do not purchase Kindle Paperwhite prior to April 30, 2013 11:59 PM (PST), the promotion will not apply.
  4. Customer will be responsible for payment to Amazon.com of final order total after discount, plus applicable taxes, gift-wrap charges and shipping charges.
  5. Each promotion code can be used only once
  6. If you return any item purchased using the discount, your refund will equal to the amount you paid for the product, subject to applicable refund policies.
  7. The promotion code is not transferrable and may not be resold.
  8. Limit one promotion code per customer.
  9. Does not apply to orders placed with 1-Click.

30% Off Qualifying Kindle Accessories (AL)

This is another AmazonLocal deal, so you must be in the US, but don't have to find a special offer on your Kindle. Instead, just click on Apply from the Free Voucher Worth 30% Off Select Kindle Accessories page, then complete the purchase on the page after that. Yes, it now says "Apply" instead of "purchase" on these free offers, but nearly the same process: you must be in the US and have a credit card on file, make a "purchase" at zero cost, then the promo code is automatically applied to your account (no waiting for an email and dealing with a promo code). Sign-up for this offer expires May 3, 2013 or when the number of vouchers set aside by Amazon have been exhausted.

Grab a voucher now, before they sell out and you'll have over a week to look thru the qualifying items and decide which ones you want (although popular ones may sell out, as always with these offers). Also, be sure to click on the headings for your particular Kindle model, once you get to the Accessories page - only a few are displayed when you first arrive and there are actually quite a few for each Kindle model (currently; these offers often sell out). The cases I looked at were all full price before the voucher and are suggested as Mother's Day gifts (but, I'd think long and hard on a snakeskin case, at least for most Mothers that I know, although I can think of a few that might want one of the camouflage cases).
Deal Description

Today's deal from the Kindle Accessories Store offers a wonderful discount on colorful sleeves, cases, and covers to protect and personalize her device. She'll appreciate the safety, and every time she picks it up to read, she'll remember you were thinking of her.

  • Wild variety of colors and patterns -- you're sure to find one she'll love

  • Voucher is valid for a 30% discount on your order total (up to the first $166.67 spent) for qualifying items in the Kindle Accessories Store; your order total can be over $333.33, but the maximum discount is $100.

Also, be sure to click on the headings for your particular Kindle model, once you get to the Accessories page - only a few are displayed when you first arrive and there are actually quite a few for each Kindle model (currently; these offers often sell out). If you've been holding off on a case, it looks like Amazon's fitted cases are already about 20% off and with the voucher code, they will be a pretty good deal.

Don't Upgrade your Kindle for iPad App

Got a notice on this via NetGalley -- if you upgrade your Kindle App on iOS (iPad or iPhone, etc), the current version has a bug that will delete all of your existing books on the device AND all your bookmarks and notes. The good news is, if this happens to you, you can redownload your books and your notes and bookmarks that have been backed up should be downloaded with them. For those who don't have the app already installed, you can download the current version without issue, but Amazon has issued a warning not to upgrade for existing users. A new version is on the way (and hopefully will fix the problem). More info can be read over on CNET.

Save $20 on 7" Kindle Fire HD!

As part of a Super Bowl advertising campaign (did you see the Kindle Fire commercial at the end of the game?), you can save $30 on a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" (now $269 with promo) or $50 on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G LTE Wireless (now $449 with promo), by entering promotional code FIRELOVE at checkout.

There are some restrictions, which work out to basically one per customer (account), only those sold by Amazon (no third party sellers or used), and only until the number they've set aside for the promotion sell out (there's no end date posted on this promo, but I don't expect it to last very long). This time around, the deals page shows both the base models and the memory upgraded models for each of the Kindle Fires that are on sale, with links to the four models eligible all shown, so that it's easier to make your choice.

The Fine Print:
Limit one discount per customer, while supplies last. U.S. customers only. Discount valid on all versions of Kindle Fire HD 8.9" sold and shipped by Amazon. It does not apply to the same products sold by other sellers. Amazon reserves the right to cancel the promotion at any time. Promo codes may not be combined with other offers. If you return items purchased using a promo code, we will subtract the value of the discount from your return credit. Offer not valid with 1-Click ordering. Void where prohibited.

Already Bought a Kindle Fire 8.9? Get a $50 Refund!

If you already bought a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" this year, you can get a $50 refund if you call Kindle Support TODAY ONLY, while the Deal of the Day promotion is still active, and ask for it. If you bought more than one, you can get a $50 refund for each one that you still have (in case you've returned one, you can't get a further refund on it; if you had to have a replacement sent, though, you can still get the refund on the original purchase).

The reason you can get this refund is that all Kindles have a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy and Amazon doesn't want to handle a large number of returns and ship out new units, just so you can get a price match.

If you are on Twitter or Facebook - be sure to ReTweet or LIKE this post and let your friends know that they can get this refund. It's only valid today and only for as long as they have the promotion active (if they sell out early, the refunds stop when they take down the deal).

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" $249!

Today only, save $50 on Kindle Fire HD 8.9" (now $249) or Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G LTE Wireless (now $449), by entering promotional code FIREHD89 at checkout. They've been showing that this was the week that these would be back in stock and now they are ready to start shipping them out in time for Christmas

There are some restrictions, which work out to basically one per customer (account), only those sold by Amazon (no third party sellers or used), and only until the number they've set aside for the promotion sell out. Although only the base models are shown on the deals page, the wording says on any model, so the $50 discount should work on the ones with more than the base RAM configurations, as well.

Limit one discount per customer. U.S. customers only. Discount valid on all versions of Kindle Fire HD 8.9” sold and shipped by Amazon. Void where prohibited,

Kindle Fire HD 4G Ships!

I just received an email that my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G LTE has shipped (and boy, do I wish that name was shorter and a lot easier to type!). Which mean, of course, that it will get here on Friday, so no Black Friday shopping for me (well, except for at Amazon ... hmmm .. could this be their intent?).

As soon as I get a chance to compare the HD models with the Ipad and some of the other test units I have, I'll try to get a post together with some pictures. None of them outside, though, since so far they've all proven nearly unusable with the sun out.

Kindle Fire Lightning Deal - $129

While they last, the current Lightning Deal at Amazon is for a Kindle Fire - 7" LCD Display, Wi-Fi, 8GB for only $129 - that's $30 off.

Note that this is NOT the new HD Kindle Fire, but the older generation hardware (essentially) with an updated interface.

Kindle Paperwhite Back Ordered

If you are thinking of picking up a Kindle Paperwhite as a Christmas gift for someone, better put in the order now. The current expected delivery date is December 21st, so it won't be many more orders before delivery will be after the holidays. I just checked the dates for the basic WiFi version, with and without Special Offers, and the more expensive 3G edition (also w/ and w/o SO) and all have the same projected delivery date.

I would not count on any type of Black Friday deals on these either (especially not from Amazon, who has only had special deals on models on their way out the door, such as the big discounts on the DX, which is now gone from the lineup). The only "deals" I've seen on ereaders for BF are one or two "with gift card" deals at local stores and you'll have to brave the BF traffic and crowds and hope they are in stock (I would not be surprised to see a number of people selling locally purchased readers on eBay, at outrageous prices, since Amazon's stock of them has started to dry up).

The following are all in-stock (for now) and can be delivered immediate:
The 8.9" Kindle Fire HD hasn't actually been released, but the expected delivery date on new orders for this model has now moved into December (from Nov 21), for orders placed today. The same first week of December dates are being projected for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G, as well.

As the holidays get closer, I expect we'll see longer delays, even in the models that are now easy to get.

30% Off Select Kindle Styluses & Stands (KSO)

This offer is only for those with a Kindle Fire with Special Offers (KFSO).

From the home page of your KFSO, swipe the top menu to the left until you see Offers, then press/click in order to see the current offers. At the bottom, you should see the offer for 30% Off Select Kindle Styluses & Stands. Click on the offer, then on the orange button to add the credit directly to your account. It's nearly instant and the next screen offers to take you to Amazon so you can spend that credit away! If you miss that screen, though, don't worry - a document about the offer will appear on your home page. You must sign up by October 28 to get this promo discount.

Choose one or more Kindle Accessories that are both shipped and sold by Amazon and order away. From the wording on the offer, you can use one-click and have multiple orders, up to the $30 total discount allowed. This credit expires November 4. Limit one per customer and one per device.

The stands are already 25%-33% off list price, so your discount will be off the shown price (a net discount up to about 50%). The one from Belkin looks like it would be easy to pack and use when not at home and I am tempted to get a new stylus that matches my cover (with everyone's here being a boring black, it's easy to lose track of them).

30% Off Select Kindle Accessories (KSO)

This offer for those with a Kindle Fire with Special Offers only. On your Kindle Fire with Special Offers, swipe the top menu to the left until you see Offers, then press/click in order to see the current offers. At the bottom, you should see the offer to 30% Off Select Kindle Accessories. Click on the offer, then on the orange button to add the credit directly to your account. It's nearly instant and the next screen offers to take you to Amazon so you can spend that credit away! If you miss that screen, though, don't worry - a document about the offer will appear on your home page.

The discount is limited to Select Kindle Accessories and they must be "sold by Amazon.com". You can put multiple items into your cart, then go thru the full checkout process - you should see the discount in your Order Summary at the upper right corner of the page. The total discount is limited to $30 (30% off $100 in purchases) and will expire at midnight (PT), October 15.

There are the usual assortment of cases to choose from (although, not the ones actually made by Amazon), along with stands, earbuds and styluses that will work with many different devices.
