Harper Collins Under Two Dollar Bargains

There are a number of books from Harper Collins that are priced under two dollars in the Kindle store today. Almost all of these are short story collections, often with individual stories from the collections selling at the same price.

Fragile Things ($0.99), by Neil Gaiman. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
A mysterious circus terrifies an audience for one extraordinary performance before disappearing into the night, taking one of the spectators along with it . . . In a novella set two years after the events of American Gods, Shadow pays a visit to an ancient Scottish mansion, and finds himself trapped in a game of murder and monsters . . . In a Hugo Award-winning short story set in a strangely altered Victorian England, the great detective Sherlock Holmes must solve a most unsettling royal murder . . . Two teenage boys crash a party and meet the girls of their dreams, and nightmares . . . In a Locus Award-winning tale, the members of an excusive epicurean club lament that they've eaten everything that can be eaten, with the exception of a legendary, rare, and exceedingly dangerous Egyptian bird . . . Such marvelous creations and more, including a short story set in the world of The Matrix, and others set in the worlds of gothic fiction and children's fiction, can be found in this extraordinary collection, which showcases Gaiman's storytelling brilliance, as well as his terrifyingly entertaining, dark, sense of humor. By turns, delightful, disturbing, and diverting, Fragile Things is a gift of literary enchantment, from one of the most unique writers of our time.

Ugly Man ($1.99), by Dennis Cooper

Book Description
... an uncommon book of death and comedy.

Internationally acclaimed writer Dennis Cooper continues to study the material he's always explored honestly, but does so now-in stories-with a sense of awareness and a satirical touch that exploits and winks at his mastery of this world. As it has done for decades, Cooper's taut, controlled prose lays bare the compulsions and troubling emptiness of the human soul.

Hardly Knew Her ($0.99), by Laura Lippman. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
New York Times bestselling author Laura Lippman has been hailed as one of the best crime fiction writers in America today, winning virtually every major award in the genre. The author of the enormously popular series featuring Baltimore P.I. Tess Monaghan as well as three critically lauded stand-alone novels, Lippman now turns her attention to short stories -- and reveals another level of mastery.

Lippman sets many of the stories in this sterling anthology, Hardly Knew Her, in familiar territory: her beloved Baltimore, from downtown to its affluent suburbs, where successful businessmen go to shocking lengths to protect what they have or ruthlessly expand their holdings, while dissatisfied wives find murderous ways to escape their lives. But Lippman is also unafraid to travel -- to New Orleans, to an unnamed southwestern city, and even to Dublin, the backdrop for the lethal clash of two not-so-innocents abroad. Tess Monaghan is here, in two stories and a profile, aligning herself with various underdogs. And in her extraordinary, never-before-published novella, Scratch a Woman, Lippman takes us deep into the private world of a high-priced call girl/madam and devoted soccer mom, exploring the mystery of what may, in fact, be written in the blood.

Each of these ingenious tales is a gem -- sometimes poignant, sometimes humorous, always filled with delightfully unanticipated twists and reversals. For people who have yet to read Lippman, get ready to experience the spellbinding power of "one of today's most pleasing storytellers, hailed for her keen psychological insights and her compelling characterizations," (San Diego Union-Tribune), who has "invigorated the crime fiction arena with smart, innovative, and exciting work" (George Pelecanos). As for longtime devotees of her multiple award-winning novels, you'll discover that you hardly know her.

My Goat Ate Its Own Legs ($1.99), by Alex Burrett. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
My Goat Ate Its Own Legs: Tales for Adults by Alex Burrett is a debut collection of tales that explores the weird what-ifs of evolution, devotion, and universal disaster."Burrett's imagination is as fertile as that of Jorge Luis Borges's, and he's more readable, and funnier." -The Independent on Sunday (London)In a voice so unfailingly chipper it's suspicious, Alex Burrett poses in fiction some disturbing yet certainly possible futures for the human race (and other ambitious, earthbound mammals). Always ready with an impeccable phrase or a sly wink, he shares tales of the most darkly ironic sort, including a field report from a human abattoir, a chronicle of dating Death, and, of course, the tale of the goat that ate its own legs. The thirty-one bizarre, insightful, and morbidly hilarious tales in My Goat Ate Its Own Legs: Tales for Adults will delight anyone who doesn't take life (or death) too seriously.

Girl Trouble ($1.99), by Holly Goddard Jones. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
Girl Trouble, a Harper Perennial paperback original, is Rona Jaffe Award winner Holly Goddard Jones's debut short story collection, set around small-town Southerners caught in moral and sometimes mortal quandaries. Written with extraordinary empathy and maturity, and with the breadth and complexity of a novel, these eight beautifully written, achingly poignant, and occasionally heartbreaking stories explore the fine line between right and wrong, good and bad, love and violence. A high school basketball coach learns that his star player is pregnant with his child. The nightmare of a college student's rape and murder is relived by both her mother and her killer, whose contradictory accounts call to question the very nature of victimhood. In these eight stories, the fine line between right and wrong, good and bad, love and violence is walked over and over again.

Love Begins in Winter ($1.99), by Simon Van Booy. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
On the verge of giving up—anchored to dreams that never came true and to people who have long since disappeared from their lives—Van Booy's characters walk the streets of these stark and beautiful stories until chance meetings with strangers force them to face responsibility for lives they thought had continued on without them.

The Secret Lives of People in Love ($1.99), by Simon Van Booy. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
The Secret Lives of People in Love is the first short story collection by award-winning writer Simon Van Booy. These stories, set in Kentucky, New York, Paris, Rome, and Greece, are a perfect synthesis of intensity and atmosphere. Love, loss, human contact, and isolation are Van Booy's themes. In radiant prose he writes about the difficult choices we make in order to retain our humanity and about the redemptive power of love in a violent world. Included in this updated P.S. edition is the new story "The Mute Ventriloquist."

Reasons for and Advantages of Breathing ($1.99), by Lydia Peelle. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
With this first book of fiction, a gifted young writer brings together eight superbly crafted stories that peer deeply into the human heart, exploring lives derailed by the loss of a vital connection to the land and to the natural world of which they are a part.

"Mule Killers" evokes the end of an era and of a grandfather's dreams when he decides to replace animal power on his farm with tractors. Two restless young girls in "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" live out their last summer of innocence, riding ponies recklessly and spying on their boss and the wealthy women who visit him. In "Phantom Pain," the Tennessee woods are a sliver of what they once were, men now hunt with GPS and cell phones, and the rumor of a dangerous panther on the loose stirs up a small town.

An unexpected vision of the beauty and mystery of life redeems the darkest moments in this stellar debut collection, a book that readers will want to read and reread.

The Price of Love and Other Stories ($1.99), by Peter Robinson. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
From the New York Times bestselling author comes a riveting collection of short fiction, marked by the piercing psychological insight and brilliant characterization that are hallmarks of his acclaimed novels Ever since the publication of his first mystery featuring Detective Inspector Alan Banks, Peter Robinson has been steadily building a reputation for compulsively readable and perceptive novels that probe the dark side of human nature. Plumbing the territory that he has so successfully staked, The Price of Love and Other Stories includes two novellas and several stories featuring the Yorkshire policeman at his finest. In the novella "Going Back," never before published in the United States, Banks returns home for a family reunion, only to find it taking a decidedly sinister turn. In "Like a Virgin," written especially for this volume, Banks revisits the period in his life and the terrible crime that led him to leave London for Eastvale. And in between, the disparate motives that move us to harm one another, from love and jealousy to greed and despair, are all explored with fascinating depth. Edgy and smart, thrilling and suspenseful, this remarkable collection is a must-have for Robinson fans-and any fan of compelling crime fiction.

Legend of a Suicide ($1.99), by David Vann. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
The reportorial relentlessness of [David] Vann-s imagination often makes his fiction seem less written than chiseled. A small, lovely book has been written out of his large and evident pain.--New York Times Book Review In Legend of a Suicide, his heartbreaking semi-autobiographical debut story-collection, David Vann relates the story of a young man trying to come to terms with the guilt and pain of his father-s suicide. The wild outback of the author-s native Alaska acts as the ideal backdrop for this collage of six stories-a novella and five shorts-and mirrors the author-s own psychological wilderness. From -an important new voice in American literature- (Robert Olen Butler, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain) comes an unforgettable exploration of the tragic gaps between one boy and his father.

More of This World or Maybe Another ($1.99), by Barb Johnson. Also at the B&N store.

Book Description
The lives of four unlikely friends intersect on the backstreets of New Orleans. Living amid poverty and violence, these fragile heroes of the American underclass redefine our notions of family, redemption, and love.

Free Book - Sex, Drugs and Techno

Sex, Drugs and Techno ($7.99 Kindle), by Paul Eldridge, is free with coupon code JM73K at Smashwords, thru April 14.

Book Description
The drug-fuelled dance party (rave) scene has been going on around the world for over twenty years, and is now a regular part of life for countless people, from school kids up to middle-aged adults. It contributes significantly to the social problem of excessive drug use and addiction. The result is a widespread phenomenon of mental and physical damage, with only one avenue for long-term ‘peace’ available to those who survive—the doctor’s legal drugs.

Until now.

Hailing from the wrong side of the tracks—his life an aimless mix of violence, petty crime, intoxication and reckless bravado—the author, Paul Eldridge, was instantly entranced by the dance party scene. It was love at first sight of the pumping, surreal crowd; love at first bite of a magical ecstasy pill. Just like for so many others, this scene became the driving force in his life—the focus of his time, money and lifestyle. He loved it, and it loved him back. Before long, he found himself among the chiefs of the tribe, DJing at major parties in Australia and across Asia. With his music, drugs, sculpted physique and ‘let’s party’ attitude, he had it all. It was the ultimate ride of anyone’s lifetime, until, like all parties, this one came to an end—with an almighty jolt!

While on the island of Bali, Paul remembered hearing about a healing practice at the foot of the island’s majestic volcano, and for some reason he jumped in a taxi and went there. The locals there took him in, and the man who ran it, while knowing nothing whatsoever about Paul, somehow knew exactly what he needed. On that day, Paul’s life changed forever.

Sex, Drugs and Techno speaks directly to the youth culture of yesterday and of today, in all its hedonism. The author’s journey as a former international DJ, Sydney surf gang member (the notorious Bra Boys), convicted drug dealer, and drug user of epic proportions, reaches out to those caught up in that hypnotic world.

Faced with the crushing discovery that his drug-induced mental state could only be healed with medication—possibly for life—it’s his incredible, unorthodox healing journey that takes us where countless drug users yearn to be—a place beyond the rehab clinics and doctors’ suites.

Free Book (Kobo) - Comic LaRuse Is A S***

Comic LaRuse Is A Slut, by Stephanie Piercy, is free in the Kobo bookstore. I don't know anything about the author and the story appears to be about and oriented towards teens, but obviously has a bit of adult language (ok, more than a bit). I don't see the book for sale in any of the other major ebookstores, currently.

Book Description
Senior year is for skipping class, slamming beers, ripping skate tricks, and smoking bats, but when cucumber-cool Comic LaRuse and loud-mouth reject Laurie Bradshaw find themselves facing a devil’s three way for the heart of the shy girl in class, they have to either bring it to the pavement or play it out hot and heavy in the bedroom.

Strep Guthrie has never made shock waves on her high school’s Richtor scale of bangable girls, so when Comic and Laurie kick up their skateboards to see if they can score, she has to work out the rules for playing hard ball with the heart times two. Not only are there two horn dog heartbreakers to deal with and their see sawing emotions, she’s navigating an orbiting mine field of related problems: cat fights with jilted lovers, dreaded parties with make-out poker, and assholes looking to mack her while her star is bright.

Sex, drugs, and math class. By the end of senior year, a bizarre love triangle has formed, and three kids learn the hard way about not just teenage personas and politics, but also the logic and ethics of sexual attraction.

Free Book (nook) - Farraday Road

Farraday Road ($9.99 Kindle), by Ace Collins, is free in the Barnes & Noble store, courtesy of Christian publisher Zondervan.

Book Description
It’s just another quiet evening out for Lije and Kaitlyn Evans. But somewhere along the way, it becomes something more sinister and a murder takes place. In the aftermath, a small-town attorney sets out to find his wife’s killers and uncovers a deadly conspiracy. A suspenseful mystery with a twist of faith.

YOU: The Owner's Manual for $1.99

In what is surely another pricing mistake, you can purchase YOU: The Owner's Manual, Updated and Expanded Edition, by Michael F. Roizen & Mehmet Oz, for $1.99 in the Kindle store. This is a book I've been considering buying (in hardback) for some time, so I jumped on it at this price. The reason I think it's a pricing error? You can also buy each of the individual chapters (whose titles don't quite reflect that they are just excerpts) at the same $1.99 each.

Book Description
Our favorite docs, Mehmet Oz and Michael Roizen, have returned to the book that started it all. With brand new chapters on the liver and pancreas, a Q&A section, and The Owner's Manual Workout, You: The Owner's Manual, Updated and Expanded Edition is an even more vital guide to the most important person in your life-you.

From the original edition (also $1.99, currently):

Between your full-length mirror and high-school biology class, you probably think you know a lot about the human body. While it's true that we live in an age when we're as obsessed with our bodies as we are with celebrity hairstyles, the reality is that most of us know very little about what chugs, churns, and thumps throughout this miraculous, scientific, and artistic system of anatomy. Yes, you've owned your skin-covered shell for decades, but you probably know more about your cell-phone plan than you do about your own body. When it comes to your longevity and quality of life, understanding your internal systems gives you the power, authority, and ability to live a healthier, younger, and better life.

You: The Owner's Manual challenges your preconceived notions about how the human body works and ages, then takes you on a tour through all of the highways, back roads, and landmarks inside of you. After taking a quiz that tests your body of knowledge, you'll learn about all of your blood-pumping, food-digesting, and keys-remembering systems and organs.

Just as important, you'll get the facts and advice you need to keep your body running long and strong. You'll find out how diseases start and how they affect your body -- as well as advice on how to prevent and beat conditions that threaten your quality of life. Complete with exercise tips, nutritional guidelines, simple lifestyle changes, and alternative approaches, You: The Owner's Manual gives you an easy, comprehensive, and life-changing how-to plan for fending off the gremlins of aging. To top it off, you'll also get the great-tasting and calorie-saving Owner's Manual Diet -- a thirty-recipe eating plan that's designed with only one goal in mind: to help you live a younger life. Welcome to your body. Why don't you come on in and take a look around?

Update: Perhaps it isn't a pricing error. B&N has the same pricing (although only on the newer edition). Then again, under the agency model you would think all stores would have the same price, yet it's full price at Kobo and not even in the Sony store (although the individual chapters are).

20th Century Ghosts for under a Buck!

You can buy the individual stories in 20th Century Ghosts, by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King), for 99 cents each or (for now) buy the entire collection for that same price. Get it while it lasts!

Golf is Not a Game of Perfect ($15.99 Kindle), by Dr. Bob Rotella, is free to download at Audible this weekend.

Book Description
Dr. Bob Rotella is one of the hottest performance consultants in America today. Among his many professional clients are Nick Price (last year's Player of the Year), Tom Kite, Davis Love III, Pat Bradley, Brad Faxon, John Daly, and many others. Rotella, or "Doc," as most players refer to him, goes beyond just the usual mental aspects of the game and the reliance on specific techniques. What Rotella does here in this extraordinary book, and with his clients, is to create an attitude and a mindset about all aspects of a golfer's game, from mental preparation to competition. The most wonderful aspect of it all is that it is done in a conversational fashion, in a dynamic blend of anecdote and lesson. And, as some of the world's greatest golfers will attest, the results are spectacular. Golfers will improve their golf game and have more fun playing. Some of Rotella's maxims include:
  • On the first tee, a golfer must expect only two things of himself: to have fun, and to focus his mind properly on every shot.
  • Golfers must learn to love 'the challenge when they hit a ball into the rough, trees, or sand. The alternatives -- anger, fear, whining, and cheating -- do no good.
  • Confidence is crucial to good golf. Confidence is simply the aggregate of the thoughts you have about yourself.
  • It is more important to be decisive than to be correct when preparing to play any golf shot or putt.
Filled with delightful and insightful stories about golf and the golfers Rotella works with, Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect will improve the game of even the most casual weekend player.

Especially if that rider is a sorceress in her own right.

Imprisoned on the closed world of Docrain, the sorcerer, Garth, has determined that the one sure way to break the bonds holding him and his emperor, the wizard, Caleis, is to set a trap for the child of the sorcerer that imprisoned him. His bid to seduce this child into aiding him becomes much easier for him when he discovers that the child is an innocent young temptress with absolutely no idea of who or what she really is. He has quickly determined that the beautiful and untrained witch is in fact a succubus just as her father had been—a sorceress able to draw huge amounts of power from the life-forces of those surrounding her and able to open a gateway into any part of the Chain that she chooses.

Intent of gaining her willing assistance—and loving devotion—Garth begins training her in the use of her power. But Kayla is young—not foolish and his plan might just backfire.

Free Book - Nice Guys Finish Last

The University of Chicago Press' free book this month is Nice Guys Finish Last ($12.24 Paperback), by Leo Durocher with Ed Linn. This one is in PDF format (DRM'd, not Kindle compatible; requires Adobe Digital Editions).

Book Description
“I believe in rules. Sure I do. If there weren't any rules, how could you break them?”

The history of baseball is rife with colorful characters. But for sheer cantankerousness, fighting moxie, and will to win, very few have come close to Leo “the Lip” Durocher. Following a five-decade career as a player and manager for baseball’s most storied franchises, Durocher teamed up with veteran sportswriter Ed Linn to tell the story of his life in the game. The resulting book, Nice Guys Finish Last, is baseball at its best, brimming with personality and full of all the fights and feuds, triumphs and tricks that made Durocher such a success—and an outsized celebrity.

Durocher began his career inauspiciously, riding the bench for the powerhouse 1928 Yankees and hitting so poorly that Babe Ruth nicknamed him “the All-American Out.” But soon Durocher hit his stride: traded to St. Louis, he found his headlong play and never-say-die attitude a perfect fit with the rambunctious “Gashouse Gang” Cardinals. In 1939, he was named player-manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers—and almost instantly transformed the underachieving Bums into perennial contenders. He went on to manage the New York Giants, sharing the glory of one of the most famous moments in baseball history, Bobby Thomson’s “shot heard ’round the world,” which won the Giants the 1951 pennant. Durocher would later learn how it felt to be on the other side of such an unforgettable moment, as his 1969 Cubs, after holding first place for 105 days, blew a seemingly insurmountable 8-1/2-game lead to the Miracle Mets.

All the while, Durocher made as much noise off the field as on it. His perpetual feuds with players, owners, and league officials—not to mention his public associations with gamblers, riffraff, and Hollywood stars like George Raft and Larraine Day—kept his name in the headlines and spread his fame far beyond the confines of the diamond.

A no-holds-barred account of a singular figure, Nice Guys Finish Last brings the personalities and play-by-play of baseball’s greatest era to vivid life, earning a place on every baseball fan’s bookshelf.

Free Books (Kobo) - Two from Francesca Lia Block

Two free books at Kobo tonight from Francesca Lia Block. You need to click on the "Add to Library" button on each one, after logging in to your account (you don't go thru a checkout process on free books there), then refresh the page to see the download button. Both of these are fairly short - only 82 pages in epub and around double that in print, but appear complete from what I compared to the paper versions.

I Was A Teenage Fairy ($6.99 Kindle)

Book Description
Maybe Mab was real. Maybe not. Maybe Mab was the fury. Maybe she was the courage. Maybe later on she was the sex... A tiny fairy winging her way through the jasmine-scented L.A. night. A little girl caught in a grown-up glitz-and-glitter world of superstars and supermodels. A too beautiful boy with a secret he can never share...

From the author of Weetzie Bat comes a magical, mesmerizing tale of transformation. This is the story of Barbie Marks, who dreams of being the one behind the Cyclops eye of the camera, not the voiceless one in front of it; who longs to run away to New York City where she can be herself, not some barely flesh-and-blood version of the plastic doll she was named after. It is the story of Griffin Tyler, whose androgynous beauty hides the dark pain he holds inside. Andfinally it is the story of Mab, a pinkie-sized, magenta-haired, straight-talking fairy, who may or may not be real but who helps Barbie and Griffin uncover the strength beneath the pain, and who teaches that love--like a sparkling web of light spinning around our bodies and our souls--is what can heal even the deepest scars.

Echo ($7.99 paperback)

Book Description
Maybe I would become a mermaid....I would live in the swirling blue-green currents, doing exotic underwater dances for the fish, kissed by sea anemones, caressed by seaweed shawls. I would have a dolphin as a friend. He would have merry eyes and the thick sleeked flesh of a god. My fingernails would be tiny shells and my skin would be like jade with light shining through it. I would never have to come back up...

Echo is caught at the crossroads of a physical world full of hope and despair and the realm of the supernatural, where young men have wings and skeletons speak. On the way, she is graced by angels and fairies and haunted by ghosts, psychopomps, and vampires. But as Echo falls under the spell of demons who threaten to destroy her, she must ultimately look within to find the strength to survive.

Through shifting points of view, Francesca Lia Block weaves pure magic into this deftly constructed tale -- a novel told in the form of linked stories. One girl's life emerges from a tapestry of voices, lives, and loves -- lost and found -- that deliver her finally to herself, triumphant, ever-changing.

Free Book (Kobo) - You Choice from Three

Kobo books is celebrating the release of the iPad with a free book and you can get it, even without an iPad (unlike books in the Apple iBooks store). Using the coupon code koboipad during checkout, you can pick any one (and only one) of the following books for free. Since you can only pick one book, I didn't test the coupon on all three, but I picked up the last one (by Lanier) with no problem. All are in DRM'd EPUB format, so will work on nook or Sony devices, PC's or Mac's, using Adobe ADE.

Rework ($9.99 Kindle), by Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson

Book Description
Most business books give you the same old advice: Write a business plan, study the competition, seek investors, yadda yadda. If you're looking for a book like that, put this one back on the shelf.

Rework shows you a better, faster, easier way to succeed in business. Read it and you'll know why plans are actually harmful, why you don't need outside investors, and why you're better off ignoring the competition. The truth is, you need less than you think. You don't need to be a workaholic. You don't need to staff up. You don't need to waste time on paperwork or meetings. You don't even need an office. Those are all just excuses.

What you really need to do is stop talking and start working. This book shows you the way. You'll learn how to be more productive, how to get exposure without breaking the bank, and tons more counterintuitive ideas that will inspire and provoke you.

With its straightforward language and easy-is-better approach, Rework is the perfect playbook for anyone who’s ever dreamed of doing it on their own. Hardcore entrepreneurs, small-business owners, people stuck in day jobs they hate, victims of "downsizing," and artists who don’t want to starve anymore will all find valuable guidance in these pages.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ($5.50 Kindle), by Stieg Larsson

Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption. From the Trade Paperback edition.

You Are Not A Gadget ($9.99 Kindle), by Jaron Lanier

Book Description
Jaron Lanier, a Silicon Valley visionary since the 1980s, was among the first to predict the revolutionary changes the World Wide Web would bring to commerce and culture. Now, in his first book, written more than two decades after the web was created, Lanier offers this provocative and cautionary look at the way it is transforming our lives for better and for worse. The current design and function of the web have become so familiar that it is easy to forget that they grew out of programming decisions made decades ago. The web’s first designers made crucial choices (such as making one’s presence anonymous) that have had enormous—and often unintended—consequences. What’s more, these designs quickly became “locked in,” a permanent part of the web’s very structure. Lanier discusses the technical and cultural problems that can grow out of poorly considered digital design and warns that our financial markets and sites like Wikipedia, Facebook, and Twitter are elevating the “wisdom” of mobs and computer algorithms over the intelligence and judgment of individuals. Lanier also shows: How 1960s antigovernment paranoia influenced the design of the online world and enabled trolling and trivialization in online discourse How file sharing is killing the artistic middle class; How a belief in a technological “rapture” motivates some of the most influential technologists Why a new humanistic technology is necessary. Controversial and fascinating, You Are Not a Gadget is a deeply felt defense of the individual from an author uniquely qualified to comment on the way technology interacts with our culture.

Free Book (nook) - Serial

The short story Serial, by Blake Crouch & Jack Kilborn (J.A. Konrath), is free in the Barnes & Noble store. The format is most likely their own ereader format (although sometimes you do get an EPUB format), with DRM and not Kindle compatible.

Book Description
Remember the twin golden rules of hitchhiking? #1-Don't go hitchhiking, because the driver who picks you up could be certifiably crazy. #2-Don't pick up hitchhikers, because the traveler you pick up could be raving nutcase. So what if, on some dark, isolated road, Crazy #1 offered a ride to Nutcase #2...

This title was previously free in the Kindle store, but is no longer available there. Instead, the authors have released an updated and expanded version, Serial Uncut, which now is approximately 36,000 words in length and is sale-priced at $1.99 "for a limited time."

Book Description
Remember the twin golden rules of hitchhiking?

#1: Don’t go hitchhiking, because the driver who picks you up could be certifiably crazy.

#2: Don’t pick up hitchhikers, because the traveler you pick up could be certifiably crazy.

So what if, on some dark, isolated road, Crazy #1 offered a ride to Crazy #2?

When Blake Crouch (DESERT PLACES, ABANDON) and Jack Kilborn (AFRAID, CHERRY BOMB), face-off, the result is SERIAL, a terrifying tale of hitchhiking gone terribly wrong. Like a deeply twisted version of an “After School Special,” SERIAL is the single most persuasive public service announcement on the hazards of free car rides.

Beyond a thrilling piece of horrifying suspense, SERIAL is also a groundbreaking experiment in literary collaboration. Kilborn wrote the first part. Crouch wrote the second. And they wrote the third together over email in 100-word exchanges, not aware of each other’s opening section. All bets were off, and may the best psychopath win.

Free Bible - Common English translation

The Common English Bible New Testament will be published this October (with some color variations in November), but the publishers are currently giving away a free copy to anyone that signs up at their website. This translation isn't without controversy (are any?), but it seems a bit wrong that the many versions of An Apology for the Common English Bible not only predate it's release, but are also priced vastly higher.

Click HERE to sign up for a free (paper) copy. While you are on the website, be sure to get a free PDF copy of the Gospel of Matthew Genesis.
