Bargain Book Roundup

The Dark Divine ($2.39), by Bree Despain

Book Description
Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared--the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in his own blood--but she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night held.

The memories her family has tried to bury resurface when Daniel returns, three years later, and enrolls in Grace and Jude's high school. Despite promising Jude she'll stay away, Grace cannot deny her attraction to Daniel's shocking artistic abilities, his way of getting her to look at the world from new angles, and the strange, hungry glint in his eyes.

The closer Grace gets to Daniel, the more she jeopardizes her life, as her actions stir resentment in Jude and drive him to embrace the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind the boy's dark secret...and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it--her soul.

The Rebound Guy ($2.80), by Jennifer Colgan

Book Description
When two friends share a night of unbridled passion, can their relationship withstand the consequences?

Catching her boyfriend in the act with another woman should have made Lauren James angry, indignant or even depressed. Instead, it made her horny. The only man in the world she trusts enough to help her through the sting of betrayal is her best friend, Eric Reynolds.

When Lauren shows up at Eric's apartment, it doesn't take much for her to seduce him. She finds solace for her trampled heart and bruised ego in Eric's capable hands. After an unforgettable night of passion, Lauren wakes to the cold reality that she used Eric to get revenge. Will Eric forgive her, even if she can't forgive herself?

Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex.

The Last Block In Harlem ($3.99), by Christopher Herz, is another of the AmazonEncore publications (and usually lists at $9.99)

Book Description
All fire escapes lead back to the same block in Sugar Hill, Harlem- where kids run through hydrants and music blares from stereos plugged into lampposts. When a new resident (the story's unnamed narrator) notices the trash polluting the picturesque streets and tainting the block's beauty, he is spurred to action. However, his best intentions go awry when the clean-up brings media coverage that in turn, sets off a rash of evictions and ushers in an influx of new and affluent tenants. In an attempt to preserve his neighborhood, the tenant mobilizes a grassroots effort to improve the neighborhood from the inside out.

Realizing he has yet again polluted his reality with unintended consequences, his fight to clean up the block evolves into a quest to cleanse his soul. The choices he makes cannot change the past and the secrets that haunt him, but will alter the future for himself, his family...and the last block in Harlem.

A Flaw in the Blood ($1.84), by Stephanie Barron

Book Description
The acclaimed author of the bestselling Jane Austen mysteries brings rich historical immediacy to an enthralling new suspense novel centered around Queen Victoria’s troubled court…and a secret so dangerous, it could topple thrones.

Windsor Castle, 1861. For the second time in over twenty years, Irish barrister Patrick Fitzgerald has been summoned by the Queen. The first time, he’d been a zealous young legal clerk, investigating what appeared to be a murderous conspiracy against her. Now he is a distinguished gentleman at the top of his profession. And the Queen is a woman in the grip of fear. For on this chilly night, her beloved husband, Prince Albert, lies dying.

With her future clouded by grief, Fitzgerald can’t help but notice the Queen is curiously preoccupied with the past. Yet why, and how he can help, is unclear. His bewilderment deepens when the royal coach is violently overturned, nearly killing him and his brilliant young ward, Dr. Georgiana Armistead, niece of the late Dr. Snow, a famed physician who’d attended none other than Her Majesty.

Fitzgerald is sure of one thing: the Queen’s carriage was not attacked at random—it was a carefully chosen target. But was it because he rode in it? Fitzgerald won’t risk dying in order to find out. He’ll leave London and take Georgiana with him—if they can get out alive. For soon the pair find themselves hunted. Little do they know they each carry within their past hidden clues to a devastating royal secret…one they must untangle if they are to survive.

From the streets of London to the lush hills of Cannes, from the slums of St. Giles to the gilded halls of Windsor Castle, A Flaw in the Blood delivers a fascinating tale of pursuit, and the artful blend of period detail and electrifying intrigue that only the remarkable Stephanie Barron can devise.

The Sex Club ($0.99), by L.J. Sellers, is an indie book that has received several good recommendations/reviews. This one is the first in her Detective Jackson Mysteries series, most of which is $2.99 in the Kindle store.

Book Description
When a bomb explodes at a birth-control clinic and a young client turns up dead, Detective Jackson is assigned both cases. But are they connected? Kera, the clinic nurse who discovers that the girl's Bible group is really a sexual free-for-all, thinks they are. But confidentiality keeps her from telling the police, so she digs for the truth on her own and becomes the bomber's new target. Soon another girl is murdered. Can Jackson uncover the killer's shocking identity in time to stop the slaughter?

Hook, Line, and Single ($1.43), by Marcia King-Gamble

Book Description
HOOK--As in hook-up. For newly divorced Roxanne Ingram, it's a new age of speed dating, singles parties and noncommittal encounters. Frankly, it's all a little awkward for a successful businesswoman about to hit the big four-0.

LINE--What's your screen name, Web site or text-messaging address? Is anyone out there over twenty-five? What about roses, candlelight and a lover who wants endless tomorrows?

SINGLE--Relax, it's just a state of mind. Between keeping her business afloat, coping with a teenage daughter and lying awake fantasizing about the mysterious and sexy new client who wants her to watch his cat, Roxanne feels like a fish out of water.

Luckily, she's got courage, faith and a mind of her own. Boldly going where only singles dare to go, she braves the holiday fixups, the flirty singles theme parties and the wild world of online dating. Still, Roxanne dreams of the kind of man who makes love easy. And maybe, just maybe, he's out there looking for her...

Chronicles of the Elantra Bundle ($9.99), by Michelle Sagara, is a three book bundle, which works out to $3.33 per book.

Book Description
Epic fantasy meets fast-paced police procedural in Michelle Sagara’s gripping action-adventure series The Chronicles of Elantra, where law enforcer Kaylin Neya investigates crime armed with magic and a sharp wit. Bundle includes Cast in Shadow, Cast in Courtlight and Cast in Secret.

Cast in Shadow
Seven years ago Kaylin fled the crime-riddled streets of Nightshade, knowing that something was after her. Children were being murdered -- and all had the same odd markings that mysteriously appeared on her own skin.

Since then, she's learned to read, she's learned to fight and she's become one of the vaunted Hawks who patrol and police the City of Elantra. Alongside the winged Aerians and the immortal Barrani, she's made a place for herself, far from the mean streets of her birth.

But children are once again dying, and a dark and familiar pattern is emerging. Kaylin is ordered back into Nightshade with a partner she knows she can't trust, a Dragon lord for a companion and a device to contain her powers -- powers that no other human has. Her task is simple -- find the killer, stop the murders and survive the attentions of those who claim to be her allies!

The Spanish Bow ($0.93), by Andromeda Romano-Lax

Book Description
I was almost born Happy.
Literally, Feliz was the Spanish name my mother wanted for me. Not a family name, not a local name, just a hope, stated in the farthest-reaching language she knew—a language that once reached around the world, to the Netherlands, Africa, the Americas, the Philippines. Only music has reached farther and penetrated more deeply.

In a dusty, turn-of-the-century Catalan village, the bequest of a cello bow sets young Feliu Delargo on the unlikely path of becoming a musician. Anarchist Barcelona and the court of the embattled monarchy in Madrid teach him his first serious lessons in creativity, principle, and passion—and their consequences. When he meets up with the charming and eccentric piano prodigy Justo Al-Cerraz, their lifelong friendship and rivalry orchestrate a tumultuous course for them both. Over the span of half a century of creative struggle and international turmoil that sees them paying house calls on Picasso one year and being courted by dictators the next, they make glorious music together, and clash over virtually everything else: love, politics, and the purpose of art. When the tensions propelling a war-torn world toward catastrophe bring Aviva, an Italian violinist with a haunted past, into their lives, Feliu and Justo embark upon their final and most dangerous collaboration.

Genghis: Birth of an Empire ($1.59), by Conn Iggulden, is one I'm definitely getting, after reading just a few pages of the sample. Be careful of other stores on this one; I know the Kobo version is only readable online (not downloadable to your Kobo reader, as they don't have it in epub). B&N has matched the price, but their EPUB is nook only, of course.

Book Description
BONUS: This edition contains excerpts from Conn Iggulden's Genghis: Lords of the Bow and Khan: Empire of Silver.

Genghis Khan was born Temujin, the son of a khan, raised in a clan of hunters migrating across the rugged steppe. Shaped by abandonment and betrayal, Temujin endured, driven by a singular fury: to survive in the face of death, to kill before being killed, and to conquer enemies who could come without warning from beyond the horizon.

Through a series of courageous raids, Temujin’s legend grew until he was chasing a vision: to unite many tribes into one, to make the earth tremble under the hoofbeats of a thousand warhorses, to subject all nations and empires to his will.

Homeward Bound: American Veterans Return from War ($2.17), by Richard H. Taylor

Book Description
By blending the historical experiences with the psychological and social obstacles faced by American veterans from the Revolutionary War through the conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq, Taylor chronicles their struggles as they try to realize their dreams when they return home from distant battlefields.

House Lights ($1.40), by Leah Hager Cohen, has a short description but very good reviews.

Book Description
Late in her twentieth year, Beatrice, who dreams of a life on the stage, is confronting a home life torn asunder. She mails a letter on the sly to her grandmother, a legendary actress long estranged from the family, sparking events that will change her life forever. Powerfully written and psychologically intricate, House Lights illuminates the corrosive power of family secrets and the redemptive struggle to find truth, forgiveness, and love.

Snarl: A Werewolf Novel ($2.99), by Lorne Dixon, is a debut novella from an established short story writer.

Book Description
Chev Worke thought he had found a path to easy money. It was quite simple, really: sacrifice Christmas with his family and drive his truck across the country on an overnight run for his employer. Done. Case closed.

He just didn't count on things going wrong and getting stranded on State Highway 59 with no one around except for a pack of hungry werewolves.

Barely escaping with his life, Chev makes it to a grocery store in Easter Glen only to learn of a secret pact that has been in place for centuries, the only thing that keeps the town safe from the bloodthirsty beasts.

There's just one problem: the pact has been broken and Chev is thrust into a world where nightmares run on all fours, blood flows freely and no one is ever safe.

In Easter Glen, by the time you hear a Snarl, it's too late.

Hush Money (Talent Chronicles) ($0.89), by Susan Bischoff, is another indie writer is high reviews.

Book Description
They call their abilities Talents, and that’s what they call themselves as well. Talents are people born with supernatural powers, feared by the population at large. Possession of an “unregistered ability” has become illegal, and those who are discovered are forcibly removed to government-run research facilities. They do not return.

And so the Talents try, as best they can, to keep their abilities secret–some more successfully than others. For some, keeping that secret begins to define who they are. That’s where Hush Money begins…

Be normal, invisible. Don’t get close to anyone. Those are the rules to live by for seventeen-year-old Joss. She spent years as an outsider, hoping to hide what she is, until the new girl, Kat, decides she’s friend material. Kat doesn’t realize her mistake when she stands up for Joss against Marco, a guy who’s been giving Joss a hard time since freshman year. Joss is horrified when these heroics lead to the reveal of Kat’s Talent. Now she has an unasked-for best friend, who is the victim of an extortion plot by the school bully, who used to like Joss. And if all that weren’t complicated enough, Dylan, Joss’s long-time crush, is finally starting to talk to her. But as Marco’s best friend, can Dylan be trusted at all? Can Joss keep her secret and still save her friend? And what’s more important, staying safe or doing what’s right?

Hush Money is a novel of approximately 50,000 words, and is rated PG-13 for strong language and one suggestive scene. It is recommended that parents read the sample provided by their retailer before purchasing this book for tweens/younger teens.

I Love You, Man . . . but Not Like That ($1.33), by D.M. Chapman & Greg Suess

Book Description
Male friendships are special bonds, but no guy wants to admit that. I Love You Man . . . but Not Like That is a hilarious way to say, "I love you maaaan," without sacrificing any testosterone.

Two rules of guydom: Don't share feelings with your buddies, and never compliment a pal without insulting him at the same time.

I Love You Man . . . but Not Like That is a humorous collection of sentiments about male friendships that convey everything beer-drinking, sports-loving, macho men may want to say but never will. Most men figure, why share brotherly love when all you really want is for your buddy to share his beer? Its tongue-in-cheek, mock-heartfelt sayings are written the way men really talk.

Some man-to-man expressions of friendship:
  • Sure our friendship has passed the test of time, but could it ever pass a Breathalyzer?
  • I often think about how much we've gone through together over the years . . . and the fact that most of it was your fault.
  • I have to tell you, you've touched me . . . seriously. We were both really drunk, but I have a vague recollection of you touching me.
Witty, emotionally distant, and universal to male friendships, I Love You Man . . . but Not Like That is something every man should give his buddy-if the big loser deserves it.

Rescue Me - $14.99 per Season

Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day has every season of Dennis Leary's Rescue Me for $14.99 today (and today only), which is less than the price of Video on Demand (and I don't know how many days it would take me to download all of these, as our bandwidth isn't high enough to watch them online without downloading first. I'll admit I started skipping episodes in Season 4, but now that the fifth Season is out on DVD, I have to get caught up. You can buy any or all of the seasons at this price (and it looks like as many copies as you want, as well, in case you want to buy them for gifts). Here are the links for the individual seasons:
I'm even tempted to buy Season Six on Video on Demand, as the price is currently down to $15.99, which is below what Amazon wants for the previous seasons (although this one does appear to be fairly short, with only ten episodes).

Free Book (PDF) - GOG

GOG - An End Time Mystery ($5.59 Kindle), by Dan Richardson, is free from Wowio this month.

Book Description
After her husband Nick goes missing in Egypt, sheltered art curator Carina Wilde flies out to find him in a land devastated by a man-made flood two years earlier — a fulfillment of the Biblical prophecy of Ezekiel, many believe.

Stumbling upon the secrets he uncovered, she becomes a fugitive pursued by despots, religious fanatics, looters and occupying powers. Her only allies are an orphan scavenging the ruins of Cairo, and a Suez bar-girl whose relationship with Nick is just one of the questions Carina is forced to confront…

A dark satire for an age when the righteous and ruthless shape our world, Gog - An End Time Mystery is written with a rare insight into Egyptian life, Middle Eastern geopolitics, and disinformation.

You can also download a Hayes FM radio interview with Dan Richardson hosted by Paul Goodwin. Among the topics discussed are how Dan began writing travel guides, the experiences that went into his Egyptian thriller, Gog – an End Time Mystery, and how a novel can tell you things about a country that a Rough Guide can’t.

Free Book (ADE/PDF) - The Bourgeois Virtues

The Bourgeois Virtues: Ethics for an Age of Commerce ($13.50 Kindle), by Deirdre N. McCloskey, is free from the University of Chicago this month.

Book Description
For a century and a half, the artists and intellectuals of Europe have scorned the bourgeoisie. And for a millennium and a half, the philosophers and theologians of Europe have scorned the marketplace. The bourgeois life, capitalism, Mencken’s “booboisie” and David Brooks’s “bobos”—all have been, and still are, framed as being responsible for everything from financial to moral poverty, world wars, and spiritual desuetude. Countering these centuries of assumptions and unexamined thinking is Deirdre McCloskey’s The Bourgeois Virtues, a magnum opus that offers a radical view: capitalism is good for us.

McCloskey’s sweeping, charming, and even humorous survey of ethical thought and economic realities—from Plato to Barbara Ehrenreich—overturns every assumption we have about being bourgeois. Can you be virtuous and bourgeois? Do markets improve ethics? Has capitalism made us better as well as richer? Yes, yes, and yes, argues McCloskey, who takes on centuries of capitalism’s critics with her erudition and sheer scope of knowledge. Applying a new tradition of “virtue ethics” to our lives in modern economies, she affirms American capitalism without ignoring its faults and celebrates the bourgeois lives we actually live, without supposing that they must be lives without ethical foundations.

High Noon, Kant, Bill Murray, the modern novel, van Gogh, and of course economics and the economy all come into play in a book that can only be described as a monumental project and a life’s work. The Bourgeois Virtues is nothing less than a dazzling reinterpretation of Western intellectual history, a dead-serious reply to the critics of capitalism—and a surprising page-turner.

Book Review: Under Witch Moon

One of the books I've read recently is Under Witch Moon, by Maria E. Schneider, and it had me laughing out loud (much to the consternation of the non-reader driving the car). The story was one it took me a few pages to get into, as I had not been reading much in this genre lately, but once I did, I raced right thru it, past all the twists and turns until the very end. I'm glad to see this one marked as part of the Moon Shadow series, which means, I hope, that I'll be reading more about Adriel in the future.

For a limited time, you can pick this one up at Amazon for $3.99 and those of you with other readers (or who want more format choices and easier access to updates, if they occur), can get it on Smashwords for the same price, using coupon code AC78A. Grab this one before it goes up (although if you miss it, it'll only be going to $4.99)!

Book Description
Adriel should have known that with a werewolf, it never stopped with just one body. She would have gone to the police after witnessing Dolores' death, but she wasn't certain the killer she saw was responsible for the other murders. Besides, the police didn't believe in werewolves, and they weren't going to believe she was a witch either so what could she tell them?

She kept her eyes and ears open while she tried to help her latest client escape the clutches of a voodoo witch, but things went from bad to worse when more bodies turned up. She was greatly relieved when she met White Feather, an undercover cop. Unfortunately, he wasn't convinced she was innocent of all wrong-doing.

It was going to take every spell she knew and a few she hadn't tried to solve the murders and stay alive.

A review copy of this book was provided by the author.

Late Nite Treat for Halloween Readers

Here's a late night freebie for those of you still haunting the internet tonight. Gryphonwood Press's Dark Places- A Gryphonwood Anthology is $0.99 in the Kindle store and is free at Smashwords tonight, using coupon code AD94N during checkout.

Book Description
Dark Places is a collection of short stories with a dark twist. Featuring contributions from Alan Baxter, Jim Bernheimer, Terry W. Ervin II, David Debord, Sherry Thompson, John E. Bailor, Ryan A. Span, and David Wood, Dark Places will take you for a walk on the dark side of fiction.

I just found this free music sampler tonight, as well: Experience Halloween: A Tunecore Music Sampler. I'm not sure how good it is, but is anything scarier sounding than Someone Gave Me Health Food On Halloween?

Darkness Under the Sun ($1.59), by Dean Koontz, is a novella that offers a glimpse of the killer in his upcoming What the Night Knows ($13.61 pre-order).

Book Description
The chilling account of a pivotal encounter between innocence and ultimate malice, Darkness Under the Sun is the perfect read for Halloween—or for any haunted night—and reveals a secret, fateful turning point in the career of Alton Turner Blackwood.

There once was a killer who knew the night, its secrets and rhythms. How to hide within its shadows. When to hunt.

He roamed from town to town, city to city, choosing his prey for their beauty and innocence. His cruelties were infinite, his humanity long since forfeit. But still . . . he had not yet discovered how to make his special mark among monsters, how to come fully alive as Death.

This is the story of how he learned those things, and of what we might do to ensure that he does not visit us.

Bargain Music Roundup

I've been looking into what I can spend my free $3 credit (see this post, if you haven't signed up for yours), since it expires today. In addition to a few good deals in the classical and jazz/blues sections, I found this first one in today's new specials (and I'm getting it first).

The 99 Darkest Pieces of Classical Music ($1.99) from the X5 Music Group contains just over 11 hours of spooky classical music, which is perfect for tonight or reading any of the spooky reads that are on special right now.

If opera is more your style, you'll definitely want to grab 75th Birthday Limited Edition - Luciano Pavarotti (Amazon Exclusive) while it's $2.99, with it's 7 hours of one of the most famous tenors of our time.

Bach: Cello Suites, performed by Jörg Baumann, will use a bit more than your free credit, at $3.99, but it's a bargain price for a solid recording (and as noted by a reviewer, many other recordings are going for much higher prices for not much better performances).

Soul Station (The Rudy van Gelder Edition) ($3.68), by Hank Mobley with Art Blakely, may be a vintage recording, but this album received a near 5 star review average with 45 reviews, so there shouldn't be anything to complain about on sound quality (and definitely not on the performances).

Free For All ($3.68), by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, is another Rudy van Gelder production that one reviewer describes as "my favorite album ever" and again has a near perfect 5-star review rating. My biggest problem in looking thru the Rudy Van Gelder Editions, in fact, was picking out just two to highlight, as there are just so many there and many of them are currently marked down to $3.68. I picked up Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage (The Rudy Van Gelder Edition) when it was on sale a while back, for example, and it's now $8.94, but his Empyrean Isles (The Rudy Van Gelder Edition) is now $3.68. Decisions, decisions....

Picking just one album from Nina Simone is also difficult. Luckily there are several bargains to choose from, ranging from The Lady Has The Blues ($5.00) to Feeling Good Hit Pack ($2.24) to Nina Simone At Town Hall ($4.99), with only one song overlap amongst the three (and it's only on two of them).

Robin Trower's Bridge Of Sighs ($3.68) has been digitally remastered and is described by one reviewer as "stunning". Definitely not one a Trower fan will want to miss.

What's Shakin' ($4.99) may have The Lovin' Spoonful in large type directly below the title, but it's a compilation album that actually includes Eric Clapton & The Powerhouse and has more from The Paul Butterfield Blues Band than any of the other artists. As one reviewer said, "Every 50-something, like myself, should have one and should buy more for each of their children. Then our children would understand why we just never could get into Motley Crue."

Get $3 in Free MP3's at Amazon

Want some free music? Amazon is giving everyone three dollars to spend in the MP3 store this weekend. All you have to do is go to the Redemption page, click on the Enter Your Code button, enter the promotion code STUDENT3 and you'll get $3 to spend on MP3's at Amazon. The only catch? You have to use it this weekend. Still, that's $3 off an album or three free singles to celebrate Halloween! It's definitely enough for the Best Of Classics IV, with Dennis Yost's rendition of that seasonable favorite, Spooky, as it's currently marked at $1.99 for the album, or The 99 Most Essential Mendelssohn Masterpieces (Amazon Exclusive) at $2.49.

While you decide, here are some other albums you can pick up, all free of charge:

Free Book - Trollslayer

Trollslayer, by William King, the first in his Warhammer : Gotrek and Felix series, is this week's free book from The Black Library. Just as with last week's selection, this is an out of print paperback that has just been introduced in ebook form (and isn't in the Kindle store). You can, however, read it on your Kindle by downloading the DRM-free Mobi version from the website below (click with your Kindle and it should load automatically).

If you want more of the series, you can get Gotrek & Felix: The First Omnibus from Amazon for $10.07, which contains this and the next two titles in the series, Skavenslayer (1999) and Daemonslayer (1999), as well as Gotrek & Felix: The Second Omnibus ($7.91) and Gotrek & Felix: The Third Omnibus ($10.07), each containing three volumes. After those nine, it looks like Nathan Long has taken over as author (he's a co-author on the third omnibus) and the prices go up). All are paper copies, as none of the Warhammer books are available on Kindle, that I can find.

Book Description
After fleeing the authorities in the Imperial city of Altdorf, Felix Jaeger swears a drunken oath to dour dwarf Gotrek Gurnisson to record his death saga. In the cold light of day, Felix's worst fears are confirmed as he learns that Gotrek is a Trollslayer - a dwarf doomed to seek out a heroic death in battle to atone for an unknown personal disgrace. Their travels throw them into a string of extraordinary adventures as Felix tries to survive his companion's destiny.

Click HERE for the free book; you can choose between the EPUB and MOBI formats and both are DRM-Free! While you are there, be sure to pick up the previous weeks' books, as well, as they are still available.

Update on Kandle and Great Battery Price

Well, it looks like we sold Amazon out of the Black Kandles, although you can still order the White ones. I don't expect these to last much longer, either, so grab them while they are there.

In the meantime, though, I searched thru the listings for the CR2032 batteries that these use. I also have several other items that use this same battery, so I thought I might stock up on a few extras. There are a number of generic bargains, such as SE CR2032 Lithium Battery, Package of 5 (5 Packs) ($6.39) or Powertron Lithium CR2032 (Pack of 25) ($8.19). The biggest problem with these generics, according to the reviews, seems to be a small number that show up already drained and that sometimes they are just loose in bags, rather than in blister packs. On the other hand, at $1.28 to to $1.69 a 5-pack, having a few bad ones in the bunch is still cheaper than the typical prices in retail stores.

If you want to stay with the name brands, the most expensive seems to be Energizer, which even in a 100 pack runs $44.49. But there are some good deals on Maxell, it seems, with a Package of 5 at $2.49 or a box of 100 for $32.05 (both with free shipping), which works out to about $1.60 a five-pack.

Update: Note that these battery prices seem to change quickly and vary by seller; if one sells out, you may get a price from a different vendor, even on the same ASIN/part number.

Update #2: I'll put this note on both posts about the Kandle. The 60% off on the second Kandle when buying two is now gone (as well as the Black Kandles being sold out). The promotion code (KANDLELT) is still working for $12.50 off when you buy two or more, so they are now effectively 1/2 price (2/$25, 3/$37.50, 4/$50 etc). Still a good deal, but nothing like the wonderful deal yesterday (when literally thousands were sold, if the response from other blog's readers were anything like the response to my blog posts).

Kindle Kandle - Two for $10

This is a terrific deal on a good reading light, for those that don't have the lighted cover (which only works with the Kindle 3). The Kandle LED Book Light in White normally sells for $25 apiece (which is what I paid for mine), discounted from a list price of $39.99. One thing that I really liked about this light was that it folded up, so it fits easily into a purse or briefcase and doesn't get tangled up with the other items you are carrying. At the same time, you don't have the extra weight all the time (like with the Sony lighted case).

On the product page there is an automatic discount if you order two of 60% off the second item, which works out to $15, resulting in a two for $35 deal. However, for a limited time, you can get those two reading lights for $10 (and yes, you have to buy two), buy adding the promotion code KANDLELT during checkout, in the box underneath where it says "Do you have any promotional claim codes?".

You must first add two of the Kandles to your cart (don't use one-click checkout or passphrase checkout), then click on Edit Your Cart (make sure your quantity is 2), then click on Proceed to Checkout. Enter the promotional code and click on Apply. Then check your Order Summary box in the top, right corner. You should now see the two promotions, one for $15 off that second Kindle and now $25 off the first one (effectively free) and an Order Total of $10.00 (you do have free Prime, right? If not, get three month's free by signing up for the Amazon Mom program). You can then place your order they should show up first thing next week.

But, wait a second, you say - my Kindle 3 is in black and I want one too? No problem, this promotion also works on the new Kandle LED Book Light in Black. Both the white and black versions have been updated with newer LED's (but my older one was fine for reading, so I look forward to seeing the difference) and come with two sets of batteries, so you don't have to worry about those for a while.

Update: Just a note to let you know that if you have a gift certificate balance on your account, you do have to use it in order to use this or any other promotion (don't change your default payment unless it's just to change credit cards). Also, you can order any number of the black and white Kandles on the same order and if you have at least two and use the promotion code, you'll pay $5 each. Which means you can order 2, 3 or any larger quantity, not just multiples of 2 per color.
