Free Kindle Game - Amazon AdMash

Amazon AdMash, a new free app in the Kindle store, lets you vote on the screensavers that those who have purchased a Kindle with Special Offers (KSO) will see. Currently, everyone can "play", including those who have any Active Content capable Kindle (K2.5 and up), not just those who have purchased a KSO. It's a neat concept: let the customers tell you which ads they like best, so that your advertising is more effective. But (here's where the game part is), it can also be used as a force to annoy those with the KSO (the most popular ads win, but the votes aren't restricted to those who will see the ads and prefer those; those who don't like the KSO concept can vote as well, even intentionally picking ads that are less desirable). Of course, to play the game, you have to view the ads (in stereo, yet), but without the ability to take advantage of the deals presented (which means more advertising distribution for the KSO sponsors).

Book Description
Step into the driver's seat and tell us which sponsored screensavers you'd like to see on Kindle with Special Offers. Anyone can vote; it's fun and easy.

Here's how it works. AdMash will show you two different screensavers and then ask you to vote for the one you like best. Scrutinize them or go with your gut, it's up to you. Once you've made your choice, it's on to the next round. The ones that get the most votes can become Kindle Sponsored Screensavers. It's up to you and the rest of the community to pick your favorites.

Download AdMash and start voting now. Play as often as you like and we'll keep adding new screensavers for you to vote on.

Book Description
Long ago, an alien “searcher” ship flew too close to a star gone nova. Though heavily damaged, the ship landed on one of Saturn’s moons, Titan.

Attempting to fulfill its original function of seeding suitable planets for exploitation, the ship creates an bewildering society of self-replicating machines that gives rise to a bizarre ecosystem and culture with intelligent beings and organically grown houses.

The intelligent beings are known as Taloids and they have developed their own brand of religion around a mythical figure, a creator of machines, and hence, life.

When humans descend from the sky, the Taloids see them as those creators.

However, powerful financial and industrial interests are all set to exploit the moon and the Taloids to maximize Titan’s vast production potential and the future for the Taloids looks grim.

But they find a champion from an unexpected source. Karl Zambendorf is a “psychic” who has wrangled a place aboard the human mission to Titan. And when all of man’s forces are conspiring to ruthlessly exploit Titan and the Taloids, Zambendorf becomes their champion and in the process challenges not only the religious imperatives of the Taloids, but the core of our own beliefs as well.

Hogan's The Immortality Option ($7.99 Kindle) and The Multiplex Man ($9.99 Kindle) are also on sale on the download page for $5.99.

The Immortality Option
In this spectacular sequel to the acclaimed Code of the Lifemaker, James Hogan returns to the strange world of Titan, inhabited by bizarre self-conscious robots. ****

Little is known about the civilization that gave birth to these machine intelligences until scientists discover blocks of embedded computer code that appear to be strangely out of place. ****

Reactivating the computer codes results in the re-awakening of ancient alien beings, creators of the strange robot culture, totally alien and immensely powerful. And they are unhappy at being restrained within the narrow confines of the machines they find themselves in. They would much rather be the masters of all. **** But while the scientists are helpless against these mighty beings, Karl Zambendord, the media-star 'Psychic' and his support team prepares to meet the challenge. ****

The alien intelligences might be intellectually superior and super rational, but this also makes them hyper-materialistic and mechanistic in their outlook and hence, totally unprepared for such "higher" concepts as the spiritual, the mystical, and the transcendental. And selling such notions is precisely Zambendorf's stock in trade

The Multiplex Man
***Winner of The Prometheus Award***

Who is Richard Jarrow?

Is he the unassuming, mild-mannered teacher he thinks himself to be or something much more?

And how does the brilliant scientist named Ashling fit into the picture?

The Multiplex Man (winner of The Prometheus Award) is an intriguing thriller set in a future where every aspect of life on Earth is micromanaged by authorities who consider any deviation from the proscribed path as dangerous.

Off-world colonies are considered dangerous enemies threatening to take Earth’s precious resources .

Jarrow must find Ashling who hold the key, not only to Jarrow’s own identity, but to freedom itself.

Free Book (Kindle/EPUB/nook) - Song of Renewal

Update: 5/19/11 Now also free from Sony.

Song of Renewal, by Emily Sue Harvey, is free on Kindle and from B&N.

Book Description
Song of Renewal received glowing acclaim upon its hardcover release. Now, Emily Sue Harvey has dramatically expanded this extraordinarily touching work to allow us to experience its riches at new levels.

The Wakefields seem to have everything. Garrison is a hugely successful graphic artist. Liza is an active member of the community and a patron of the arts. Their 16-year-old daughter Angel is bright, beautiful, and a gifted dancer. At the same time, though, they have traded away many of their dreams. Garrison gave up a future as an accomplished painter to make money. Liza suspended her own dancing career to raise a family. And Angel is setting aside her ambitions to live her mother’s dream.

When Angel gets into a car accident that kills her first love, the Wakefields’ lives turn on a dime. While Angel lies in a coma from which even the best prognosis is devastating, Garrison and Liza sit by her side, their once-passionate marriage in tatters. As their heartache over Angel builds, Garrison and Liza struggle to rediscover who they once were—and who they were meant to be. They come to realize that it will take everything they have within themselves to heal Angel, heal their hearts, and renew the power of their love.

At once romantic, inspiring, and empowering, Song of Renewal is a rare bauble of a novel, one with something to say to every family.

Free Book (Kindle/nook) - Why?

Update: Now free from B&N.

Why?, by Adam Hamilton, is free in the Kindle store, courtesy of Christian publisher Abingdon Press.

Book Description
When the ground shakes, and a poor nation’s economy is destroyed; when the waters rise, washing away a community’s hopes and dreams; when a child suffers neglect and abuse; when violence tears apart nations; where is God? If God is all powerful, and if each one of us is a beloved child of God, then how can God allow tragedy and suffering to infest his creation?

When we lift our prayers to God, and no answer seems to come; when we earnestly seek to know the will of God for our lives, yet can't seem to discern it; when God seems far away; where is God? If God counts the hairs on our head, and knows every sparrow that falls, why is finding and understanding God's will so difficult at times?

In Why? Making Sense of God's Will best-selling author Adam Hamilton brings fresh insight to the age-old question of how to understand the will of God. Rejecting simplistic answers and unexamined assumptions, Hamilton addresses how we can comprehend God’s plan for the world and ourselves.
