Today's Deals

Now free in the US Kindle store and in additional formats:
If you are looking to buy that special someone an eReader for Valentine's Day, for some reason don't want a Kindle and have waited until the last minute, you might be interested in the $99 sale that Sony is having on their PRS-T1C today. It's the touch model and claims to wirelessly integrate with libraries better than the Kindle Touch (also $99, which can be a bit awkward, but does work and has a few other things going for it). It reads straight EPUB (so, nothing from the nook store).

If you prefer the nook Touch, you can pick up on for $70 over on Daily Steals today. It is a refurb, though; if you want new, then they are currently on sale for $99 at Barnes & Noble and quite a few people (including me) received personalized coupons in their email yesterday, offering a $25 gift card if purchased with Mastercard; unfortunately, the coupons are not transferable, so you'll have to check your email to see if you received one, too. If you don't have a membership at B&N, you can also buy that at $25 and turn around and get $25 off purchase, essentially giving yourself a year of discounts and free shipping on the website with purchase.

Those who do buy EPUB from the Sony store may be interested in the new coupon code, 25OFF02092012, good for 25% off one non-Agency Sony Reader ebook. Good through 15 February 2012. Also for those using EPUB, Books on Board's email today said they are having a 50% off sale this weekend on some SciFi books (to celebrate the Hugo Awards) and they linked in their new Freebies page; most of what is there I already had (or is public domain), but I think there were one or two that are new for my library (although they may be just samples, I'll have to read a bit closer to find out, as at least one I looked at was just that).

Madboy: My Journey from Adboy to Adman ($1.99), by Richard Kirshenbaum, is today's Kindle Deal of the Day.
Book Description
A thrilling and irreverent memoir about the transformation of the advertising business from the 1980s to today

Richard Kirshenbaum was born to sell. Raised in a family of Long Island strivers, this future advertising titan was just a few years old when his grandfather first taught him that a Cadillac is more than a car, and that if you can’t have a Trinitron you might as well not watch TV. He had no connections when he came to Madison Avenue, but he possessed an outrageous sense of humor that would make him a millionaire.

In 1987, at the age of twenty-six, Richard put his savings on the line to launch his own agency with partner Jonathan Bond, and within a year, had transformed it from a no-name firm into the go-to house for cutting-edge work. Kirshenbaum and Bond pioneered guerilla marketing by purchasing ad space on fruit, spray-painting slogans on the sidewalk, and hiring actors to order the Hennessy martini in nightclubs. They were the bad boys of Madison Avenue—a firm where a skateboarding employee once bowled over an important client—but backed up their madness with results.

Packed with business insight, marketing wisdom, and a cast of characters ranging from Princess Diana to Ed McMahon, this memoir is as bold, as breathtaking, and as delightful as Richard himself.
