You'll get an email (right away), a link to the T-Mobile page. You have to sign up for a mobile plan at $19.99/month (which is actually a pretty good deal for a cellular internet connection) and you get the device for free. You end up with a 2GB/month plan (no overages allowed), which is more than enough for email and browsing now and then (but nothing like what you'd need to watch movies regularly).
Be sure to check the coverage map, to make sure they actually have service where you are or plan to travel (check data coverage, not just voice). I've never used T-Mobile, but if you have, this might be a nice addition for internet coverage for your iPad or Kindle Fire, when you are out and about.
