Today's Deals and Bargain Books

The six free Christian published titles from this morning are also free in the Sony bookstore. It's easiest to see them by browsing the EPUB book posts.

The 100 Kindle Books for $3.99 or Less sale list has updated, with an all new selection of books. I've only checked the first two rows of titles and I already have 8 of 10, so my pocketbook may be a bit safer this month (at least, until I finish looking thru the list, as I know I'm buying at least one of the two I don't already have).

Today is the last day to take advantage of the Save $25 on back-to-college gear KSO deal.

The new Fictionwise code is 093011, but it's only for 25% this time around (usually expires around Tues/Wed).

Mercury Falls ($0.99), by Robert Kroese, is today's Kindle Deal of the Day. It's a good price on a book I picked up when it was indie published; the sale edition is from AmazonEncore, which means it is probably a bit more polished now.
Book Description
While on assignment in Utah, Christine Temetri isn’t surprised when yet another prophesied Apocalypse fails to occur. After three years of reporting on End Times cults for a religious news magazine, Christine is seriously questioning her career choice. But then she meets Mercury, a cult leader whose knowledge of the impending Apocalypse is decidedly more solid than most: he is an angel, sent from heaven to prepare for the Second Coming but distracted by beer, ping pong, and other earthly delights. After Christine and Mercury inadvertently save Karl Grissom—a film-school dropout and the newly appointed Antichrist—from assassination, she realizes the three of them are all that stand in the way of mankind’s utter annihilation. They are a motley crew compared to the heavenly host bent on earth’s destruction, but Christine figures they’ll just have to do. Full of memorable characters, Mercury Falls is an absurdly funny tale about unlikely heroes on a quest to save the world.

Can You Keep a Secret? ($1.99 Kindle, B&N) is by Sophie Kinsella, the author of the Shopaholic series.
Book Description
With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets:

Secrets from her mother:
  • I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
  • Sammy the goldfish in my parents’ kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.

Secrets from her boyfriend:
  • I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
  • I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.

From her colleagues:
  • When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.

Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
  • My G-string is hurting me.
  • I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.

Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.

But come Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse—Until they do.
