Percy Jackson under $5

All but the last book (The Last Olympian ($9.45) in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series are now under $5 in the Kindle store.

The Lightning Thief ($4.40) comes in two editions - the second is the film edition, at the same price.

Book Description
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

With cover art from the major motion picture, this first installment of Rick Riordan's best-selling series is a non-stop thrill-ride and a classic of mythic proportions.

The Sea of Monsters ($4.40)

Book Description
After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson - a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any -normal- friends. But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia - only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name - the Bermuda Triangle. Now Percy and his friends - Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson - must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family - one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

The Titan's Curse ($4.40)

Book Description
When the goddess Artemis goes missing, she is believed to have been kidnapped. And now it's up to Percy and his friends to find out what happened. Who is powerful enough to kidnap a goddess? They must find Artemis before the winter solstice, when her influence on the Olympian Council could swing an important vote on the war with the titans. Not only that, but first Percy will have to solve the mystery of a rare monster that Artemis was hunting when she disappeared - a monster rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus forever.

The Battle of the Labyrinth ($4.40)

Book Description
As an incoming freshman, Percy isn't expecting his high school orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse. In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos' army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop them, Percy and his demigod friends will set out on a quest through the Labyrinth - a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn. Full of humor and heart-pounding action, this fourth book promises to be their most thrilling adventure yet.

John Grisham EBooks Now Available!

Big news on the ebook front today, as John Grisham's are now available (legally) in electronic format. Here's the announcement from Amazon:
Long before his name became synonymous with the modern legal thriller, John Grisham was working 60-70 hours a week at a small Mississippi law practice, squeezing in time between the office and courtroom recesses to work on his hobby--writing his first novel. That hobby would quickly turn into a new full-time career. We're excited to announce that his international bestsellers including The Firm ($7.99), The Pelican Brief ($7.99), The Client ($7.99), and his latest collection of short stories, Ford County ($9.99), are now available on Kindle.
You can also find his books in the B&N and Sony stores.

Free Book Update

The Amazon pricing genie has raised the price of the "free" editions of these three back to 99 cents (along with removing over a dozen other previously free titles in the last couple of days):
If you ordered them while they were free, you won't pay when they are delivered (and you should have Stopping Time, Part 1 today).

At Barnes & Noble, you can get still get Stopping Time, Part 1 and Stopping Time, Part 2 as free pre-orders and they've added these:
Sony has added these three as free downloads:

A reader sent in a tip on In Over Her Head ($24.95 paperback), by Elsie Russell, which I highlighted last August, when she was giving away a copy as a PDF. It's now available for the Kindle and only $1.00. As I've said before, visiting her web site is worth the time, just to see the samples of her paintings.

Book Description
The debut of Penny Bell's's musical composition, featuring the use of mysterious extremely low frequency waves takes a tragic turn when several concert-goers die in their seats during the performance. The once-bright horizons of Penny's career collapse, and she retreats to a dank Soho basement apartment lit only by the glow of computer monitors and electronic displays. There, using herself as a guinea pig, she sets out to unlock the secrets of her beautiful and deadly symphonies. A series of strange coincidences intrude upon her solitary quest. Her neighbor, the erotic performance artist Ula Nova's, disappears after her studio is broken into. And then Ula's charming and damaged young choreographer appears, and sweeps Penny off to Europe to search for the diva, plunging Penny into a seedy and unfamiliar world of jet set artists and international intrigue where the threads of every encounter always seem to lead back to those ELF waves and their pint-sized progenitor.

I want to thank all the publishers and authors who made their books available for free or deeply discounted this week. I've added quite a few to my TBR stack and look forward to trying out several new authors.
