Free Audiobook - Desiring God

ChristianAudio's free download this month is Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist by John Piper, narrated by Grover Gardner Paperback $10.19). After adding the audiobook to your cart, enter the coupon code NOV2009 during checkout.

Scripture reveals that the great business of life is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. In this paradigm-shattering classic, newly revised and expanded, John Piper reveals that the debate between duty and delight doesn't truly exist: Delight is our duty. Join him as he unveils stunning, life impacting truths you saw in the Bible but never dared to believe.

John Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis since 1980, is the author of The Dangerous Duty of Delight, Desiring God, Future Grace, A Godward Life, and The Pleasures of God. He received his doctorate in theology from the University of Munich and taught biblical studies for six years at Bethel College, St. Paul, before becoming a pastor. He and his wife, Noel, have four sons and one daughter.

Don't Waste Your Life
In this book John Piper describes his own journey in discovering this great, single passion. And He pleads that at all costs we pursue our joy in the crucified Christ, who is the glory of God.

When I Don't Desire God
What do you do when you discover that you're not satisfied in God the way he wants you to be? Joy is more than an afterthought of the Christian life; it is the sustaining fruit of a relationship with God. With a radical passion for Christ's glory, John Piper helps you find the joy God wants you to have.

The Pleasures of God
The weight of glory is a happy burden. Thus God is the happiest Being in the Universe. To know Him in His pleasures is to see Him as He is- and to have a fresh encounter with His transforming presence.

A Hunger For God
Do you have a hunger for God? There is an appetite for God. And it can be awakened. Piper invites us to turn from the dulling effects of food and the dangers of idolatry, and to say with a simple fast: "This much, O God, I want you."

All the Best Books are Free

Or, at least they are at Amazon. I took a snapshot of the Kindle Bestsellers list earlier this evening ... every single book is one of the free books available for all Kindle owners (including those with an iPhone or access to a PC ... in other words, any US Amazon customer). Free books have dominated the Kindle Bestsellers lists for months, but usually there is at least one or two of the $9.99 NYT Bestsellers on the list as well.

Organization "Coming Soon" to Kindle!

Just saw this on the Kindle Facebook page:
Kindle Customers, We have heard from many of you that you would like to have a better way to organize your growing Kindle libraries. We are currently working on a solution that will allow you to organize your Kindle libraries. We will be releasing this functionality as an over-the-air software update as soon as it is ready, in the first half of next year. - The Kindle Team
Update: Some people on the Amazon Kindle forums are reporting this is a "scam" (the correct word they are looking for is "hoax"). However, you can see the same message yourself, starting from the Amazon twitter feeds page here: tinyurl.com/AmznTwts. Go to the Kindlereads feed - the announcement is there, as is a link to the Kindle Facebook page.

Also, finally an official annoucement in the Amazon forums (but no reply to question about the original Kindle there...)

Four for the Price of One - Patricia Cornwell

Four Scarpetta Novels ($7.99), by Patricia Cornwell, contains the following books: The Last Precinct, Blow Fly, Predator and Book of the Dead, which are the 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th books in the Kay Scarpetta series (yes, it skips over #13, Trace), each of which sells separately for $7.99.

This looks like another price mixup, like the Twilight Saga earlier, so I expect it to change soon (and go to more than double the current cost).

The Last Precinct (2000)
Thwarting an attack by a suspected serial killer puts Virginia-s Chief Medial Examiner Kay Scarpetta in the harsh glare of the spotlight. As her personal and professional lives come under suspicion, she discovers that the so-called Werewolf murders may have extended to New York City and into the darkest corners of her past. A formidable prosecutor, a female assistant district attorney from New York, is brought into the case-and Scarpetta must struggle to make what she knows to be the truth prevail against mounting and unnerving evidence to the contrary. Tested in every way, she turns inward to ask, Where do you go when there is nowhere left?

Blow Fly (2003)
Dr. Kay Scarpetta has left Virginia in quest of peace but instead finds herself drawn into baffling, horrific murders in Florida. There she becomes entangled in an international conspiracy that confronts her with the shock of her life.

Predator (2005)
Dr. Kay Scarpetta, now freelancing with the National Forensic Academy in Florida, takes charge of a case that stretches from steamy Florida to snowbound Boston, one as unnerving as any she has ever faced. The teasing psychological clues lead Scarpetta and her team-Pete Marino, Benton Wesley, and Lucy Farinelli-to suspect that they are hunting someone with a cunning and malevolent mind whose secrets have kept them in the shadows, until now.

Book of the Dead (2007)
The "book of the dead" is the morgue log, the ledger in which all cases are entered by hand. For Kay Scarpetta, however, it is about to have a new meaning. Fresh from her bruising battle with a psychopath in Florida, Scarpetta decides it's time for a change of pace-not only personally and professionally, but geographically. Moving to the historic city of Charleston, South Carolina, she opens a unique private forensic pathology practice, one in which she and her colleagues-including Pete Marino and her niece, Lucy-offer expert crime-scene investigation and autopsies to communities that lack local access to competent death investigation and modern technology. It seems like an ideal situation, until the new battles start-with local politicians, with entrenched interests, with someone whose covert attempts at sabotage are clearly meant to run her out of town. And that's even before the murders and other violent deaths begin. A young man from a well-known family jumps off a water tower. A woman is found ritualistically murdered in her multi-million-dollar beach home. The body of an abused young boy is discovered dumped in a desolate marsh. Meanwhile, in distant New England, problems with a prominent patient at a Harvard-affiliated psychiatric hospital begin to hint at interconnections that are as hard to imagine as they are horrible. Scarpetta has dealt with many brutal and unusual crimes before, but never a string of them as baffling, or as terrifying, as the ones that face her now. Before she is through, that book of the dead will contain many names-and the pen may be poised to write her own.
