I've read some of the sample for
El Narco: Inside Mexico's Criminal Insurgency (
$2.99), by Ioan Grillo, and I think I may buy it. For those who haven't been paying attention, Mexican gangs have been infiltrating neighborhoods all over America. Many of them have ties to the Mexican cartels that have taken over many parts of Mexico (and that only seem to make our local newspapers when they do something spectacularly awful, such as the tiny town a walk away from TX, where no one will be the sheriff and the last one that tried lasted less than a day until he was murdered). For those that remember a bit of history, their exploits read a lot like the Mongol hordes that swept down from the Russian steppes, but with a lot more firepower.
