Bargain Book Roundup

Today's bargain book roundup looks at the religious (but not necessarily "Christian") non-fiction genre.

My Life, His Mission ($1.30), by Kim P. Davis

Book Description
This new six-week study inspires students to look beyond themselves and see a world that desperately needs Christ. Students will learn about following the call of God and will experience firsthand accounts from other students who have joined God in his worldwide work. Topics include: hearing God's call, trusting God, praying for world missions, sharing the faith, being flexible, and taking risks. Amazing stories and Scripture give an exciting challenge. Collegiate ministers and youth pastors can use this book as a tool for spiritual development and missions awareness for students. Group discussion questions are included for each lesson.

Eyes Wide Open ($2.75), by Mariana Caplan (one of two editions, this is the mobi-formatted one)

Book Description
The spiritual path is like any other road-it-s going to have its share of potholes and detours. Safe travel requires a quality rarely taught yet critically important in today-s world: discernment. In Eyes Wide Open, Mariana Caplan supports us in cultivating the acute judgment and discrimination that will help us to live a spiritual life with intelligence, clarity, and authenticity.

Is enlightenment less about fireworks and bliss and more about dismantling illusions? How do we fully integrate our practice into daily living? What-s the best way to work with the ego and the shadow? Eyes Wide Open explores these questions and more, offering practitioners from any tradition-or those just getting started-a traveler-s guide through -the labyrinth of increasing subtlety- that defines a genuine spiritual life.

Psychic Self-Defense ($2.84), by Dion Fortune

Book Description
After finding herself the subject of a powerful psychic attack, Dion Fortune wrote this detailed instruction manual for safeguarding yourself against paranormal malevolence. Fortune explores the elusive psychic element in mental illness and, more importantly, details the methods, motives, and physical aspects of psychic attack, and how to overcome this energy. The revised edition of this New Age classic includes an index and an additional explanatory note for contemporary readers.

Inside My Heart ($1.31), by Robin McGraw

Book Description
I believe we were put on this earth to enjoy lives of joy and abundance, and that is what I want for you and for me. It's not my intention to give people advice on how to solve their problems (I leave that to my husband). But I've had my share of struggles over the years, and I know a thing or two about what has worked for me. I have chosen to be an active participant in my life rather than a spectator, and in so doing I have chosen how to be a woman, how to be a wife, and how to be a mother in ways that are uniquely my own. I offer the stories of these choices as evidence of the power of sheer determination, will, and faith in God.

You've seen her on television with her husband, Dr. Phil. But now it's time for a heart-to-heart conversation with Robin McGraw. In Inside My Heart, Robin speaks woman to woman, inspiring you to embrace and celebrate the many roles you play and encouraging you to make deliberate choices that lead to a richer, happier, and more meaningful life.

She shares with you the life-changing moments of her childhood years, dating and marrying Dr. Phil McGraw, raising two sons, and asserting herself as a woman in a man's world to show you that you have the power to make choices in your life. In fact, she's convinced that you must choose to go after the life you want.

With a deep and abiding faith in God, Robin McGraw shares her story so you too can make choices that reflect your own heart's truest priorities and highest goals.

WISDOM OF THE BUDDHA: The Unabridged Dhammapada ($2.50), edited by Friedrich Max Müller (English translation)

Book Description
Few sacred texts present their wisdom with the clarity of the Buddhist Dhammapada, or Path to Virtue. These ancient verses offer a compelling introduction to Buddhist thought, revealing the Four Truths—concerning the nature of the world and our lot in it—and the Eightfold Path to enlightenment, the means by which to overcome the essential suffering revealed by the Four Truths as the essence of life. Expressed with great beauty and translated with painstaking scholarship, this volume offers stimulating, challenging, and inspiring reading.

Blood in the Sand ($2.80), by Benny Hinn

Book Description
Having been born in the Middle East and raised among Arabs, Christians, and Jews, Pastor Benny Hinn has a truly unique perspective on the Middle East. For this reason Christians with a sincere desire to understand the roots of the conflict have questioned him for years, prompting him to publish this timely book on the subject. Blood in the Sand takes readers on a journey in time from Abraham, Isaac, and Ishmael to the critical situation we currently face as citizens of the world. Along the way, Pastor Benny shares personal memories of growing up in the region, scriptural prophecies pertaining to the current crisis, and his own heart regarding what he believes is on the horizon.

Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You ($3.26), by Deborah Norville

Book Description
Thank You. Can such small words hold life changing power? Yes!

Deborah Norville's groundbreaking and persuasive book argues that gratitude is the secret key to unlocking your full life potential. Rooted in science, presented from a spiritual perspective, Thank You Power details the surprising life improvements that can stem from the practice of gratitude.

Norville brings together for the first time the behavioral and psychological research that prove what people of faith have long known: giving thanks brings life blessings. Beginning with those two small words, thank you, Norville shows how you can be happier and more resilient, have better relationships, improved health, and less stress.

The list of benefits is long. You'll exercise more, be more creative, bounce back more quickly from adversity, have a higher immune response, live longer, be better liked by others, and have more creativity in solving problems. Each of these outcomes is backed up by published research. The key? Gratitude.

Stepping Out of Denial into God's Grace Participant's Guide 1, Taking an Honest and Spiritual Inventory Participant's Guide 2, Getting Right with God, Yourself, and Others Participant's Guide 3, and Growing in Christ While Helping Others Participant's Guide 4 ($4.99 each), by John Baker; both show list prices of $139.99, but the paper copies are under $20, so you really aren't saving $135 each! However, the Kindle versions do not come with the program CD's (which, I suspect, are only included in the higher cost Leader's Course version of these books).
