Get $20 Amazon Giftcard for $10

LivingSocial is a website that specializes in coupons and deals on the internet and each day, they offer a daily deal, with many of those targeted for the city in which you reside. Often, these are discounts on meals or massages, but today's deal is a $20 Amazon Gift Card for $10. You do have to either create an account or sign in with Facebook and then use a credit card to purchase the gift card (if your card lets you set up a one-use card number, this is a good place to use it). It looks like this will be one of the most popular daily-deal coupons in recent history, even more popular than Groupon's Gap deal, according to Techcrunch.

I read thru the fine print and this appears to be a standard amazon gift card, so can be used on Kindle books, unlike some Amazon promotional codes that exclude them. The deal is only live today, though, so you'll want to take advantage, if you can; the deal is limited to those in the US.

An added note - you don't get the coupon right away. They have a "share" option that can reduce the price to zero (for this particular deal) and in order to take advantage of that, you don't get the gift card until the next day. You can also cancel the purchase on the My Deals page, up until the time your card is charged.

Free Book (Sony) - Admit One

Admit One: My Life in Film ($7.99 Kindle), by Emmett James, is free in the Sony ebookstore.

Book Description
Set in Croydon, South London, in the 1980s, Admit One details how self-deprecating writer Emmett James escaped from the pains of adolescence by going to the cinema. Through wry wit and observation, the writer reflects, obsesses, and rages about film and its correlation to our pasts. Life soon imitates art, and the narrator finds that his true calling is in transcendence from one side of the screen to the other. He decides to leave England for the only place where he can realize his dream of becoming an actor--Hollywood.

We follow the narrator on his numerous adventures: as he jumps from forgery to pornography to crashing the Academy Awards under the alias of a nominated writer. All the while, the films that inspired each tale contextualize this humorous collection of stories. The narrator ultimately provides a unique insight into the fascinating industry of film, eventually himself stumbling into the biggest box-office grossing film of all time

Dave Conifer Free on Smashwords

So, I didn't see the email until late tonight, but Dave Conifer has all his books on Smashwords free tonight, 1/17. Although, there is a chance the coupon codes will work tomorrow, as well (he says he isn't really sure how the expirations work, so it might be worth a try if you see this on Tuesday.
Like many independent/self-published authors, he has to do all promotion on his own and has decided to take a hiatus from that for a while (kids, real jobs, writing ... there are many other things that vie for the attention of an indie author), so is giving everyone a chance at free or bargain books while he attends to other duties for a while.

First, go to his author page and get the coupon codes, then click on each book and add to your cart. Wrecker is his newest (and he was kind enough to send over a review copy, which I haven't gotten to, yet). Hopefully a few of you night owls will see this in time to pick up one or two (most of them have 4-5 star averages on the reviews).

If you do miss the sale, it looks like he has all but Wrecker, at 99 cents on Amazon (it's $1.99). I haven't read, but have seen several good comments on eBully, so you might want to check it out, also.

Free Book - Origin Scroll

Update: This book was re-issued with a new ASIN, still free on Kindle for US customers.

Origin Scroll, by Richard S. Tuttle, the first in his self-published series, The Targa Trilogy, is free on Kindle, Smashwords and from B&N.

Book Description
The world is in peril. The Evil sorcerer, Sarac, seeks an ancient document entitled, the Origin Scroll. This ancient tome contains the knowledge to control the very existence of the Universes. Sarac will stop at nothing to obtain the Origin Scroll and the fate of the Universes rest with three unknown children. Alexander Tork, a fifteen-year-old boy, is an apprentice lumberman learning the trade from his father in a small nameless village in the frontier region of Targa. Oscar Dalek, a fifteen-year-old boy, lives with his widowed mother in a town on the Targa-Cordonia border. The family's survival rests with the boy's abilities to salvage whatever he can from the caravans crossing the border. Jenneva Roth, a fifteen-year-old girl who loves to read, lives with her aged uncle in western Targa. Unfortunately, her uncle's health is failing and she must travel across the country to live with relatives she has never seen.

Origin Scroll by Richard S. Tuttle is a fantasy novel about three formerly insignificant young people who will meet and unite their special abilities to challenge the evil sorcerer, Sarac, before he destroys the Universes. Origin Scroll is the first volume of the Targa Trilogy. Dark Quest and Ancient Prophecy complete the Targa Trilogy.
