Book Description
Can volunteer elf Annie turn department-store heir Brent from snooty Scrooge to sexy Santa?

A girl from the "wrong side of the tracks," Annie Silver's always been something of a loner, depending only on her best friend, Faith Howard, for friendship and her family for love. In school, she excelled academically, but she never tried to make friends with the "in" crowd,
content to watch them from afar. And, in particular, she watched Brent Carrington.

Christmas is her favorite holiday, and every year she's worked holiday shifts at Brent's family's department store. This year, however, she's got something more than holiday work in mind. Now that she's about to leave her hometown of Bishop, Ohio, for Manhattan, she's determined to have what she's always wanted—Brent.

Free Poetry - The Closet Clandestine

You can pick up The Closet Clandestine: a queer steps out, by Edward C. Patterson, a volume of poetry, for free at Smashwords, through December 9. Use the coupon code YL39Z at checkout.

Book Description
A collection of seven poetry books, The Closet Clandestine: a queer steps out, tracks a gay man's sensitivities to the strange world encountered both in and out of the real and poetic closet. Sensitive and bold, and sometimes shocking and, in all cases, lyrical, this is a journey from shy emergence to bold self-confidence.

These 180 poems are collected into seven volumes, including The Awakening, Catherine and Other Poems, The Festival at Thebes, Ties and Rings, Gay October, Provincetown Poems, and Songs: Not Just Survival. "Rage girls in fiery green - that I will never retreat into the closet clandestine again."

Review from Rainbow Reviews:

"I read poetry by "dipping" - the book lies by my bed, and I dip at random, reading one, maybe two before bed. In this way the pleasure is extended, it can take months to read through a volume. Poetry should not be rushed.

I enjoyed this volume of poetry. For one, the layout is to my taste, lots of white, open space, to leave room for thought. Another thing I enjoyed seeing was the development of the poet, from being 'in the closet' in The Awakening, to being 'out, and proud of it' in Songs: Not just Survival. There is a progression; the poet shares his life and moments.

The poems are well crafted, it is clear that thought and love and much work went into the work. I plan to keep the volume by my bed.

Read it, savor it."

The volume is also available in the Kindle store ($3.99), but no discount is available there.

Bonus $10 Amazon.com Gift Card from Coinstar

It's not as good as last year's bonus from Coinstar (which gave out instant Amazon bonus gift cards), but you can get a $10 Amazon Gift Card by mail, if you use a Coinstar machine to get a $40 Amazon eCertificate. Check first before putting in your money, as not all machines issue eCertificates; you can use the Coinstart locator to find a machine that does.

Also, be careful adding your money as you get close to the $40 goal - these machines don't give back any change and only issue eCertificates in specific amounts. The good new is that, so far, you don't have to pay any fee when getting an eCertificate, so you get your change turned into a gift card at no charge and come out $10 ahead. Since offer is by mail, you can only take advantage of it one time. You also have to hurry, as the offer is only good through 12/6/09.

The “untour,” as they call it, follows the book’s agenda, testing the itinerary while verifying the data contained in the manuscript for the final edit.

Before the trip even begins, it becomes apparent that someone has a hidden agenda. A freak accident renders Lucy unable to travel, and Claire reluctantly agrees to lead the “untour.” She is relying on the professional tour guide who will meet them in London.

The reader joins this “untour” as it wends through the countryside of England and Wales. But they are plagued with strange events, accidents, and a “misadventure.” Oddly enough, despite all the problems encountered, the remaining members are thrilled with the trip and eager to travel again now that they’ve completed their virgin journey. But the “untour” isn’t over yet.

Lucy never said it could be like this!

Deception ($2.99), by Denise Mina

Book Description
Things like this don't happen to people like us. That's what Lachlan Harriot thinks as he watches his wife, Susie, led to jail in handcuffs. Yes, Susie, a psychologist, was found covered in blood near the spot where one of her clients appears to have been murdered. But Susie is not a killer, Lachlan thinks. She's my wife. She's our child's mother. Secrets lurk behind closed doors, however, a dark truth made chillingly clear as Lachlan's efforts to prove Susie's innocence uncover an entire secret history--illicit affairs, false identities, unimaginable deception--and this brilliantly acclaimed, page-turning novel speeds toward a conclusion as shocking as it is ingenious.
